In civilised airport there is a common practice that people with babies are fast tracked, for better other passengers experience, unfortunately not here, and lots of children was queued long and start to crying which was not the best for all people in the queue…

If you have to fly out of Birmingham, be prepared to queue for a long, long time. Absolutely chaotic arrangement by Turkish airline. People are waiting outside gate sitting on rails with empty seats inside glass separator. Also no priority for elderly passenger or kids. Try to avoid flying out of Birmingham, they are currently working on the /departures area until summer 2024, Building work happening everywhere, for arrivals and departures, no significant signage for where to go and no one to ask. Most embarrassing airport I've ever flown from. I've travelled from here a few times, the queueing for security check system makes no sense, funnelling everyone into a single line to then split off into further queues. In the Luggage area, no trolley, luggage handler staff is awful, they are rude and have no manners Parking fees is absolutely shocking, up to 1 hour £50. Most expensive parking the world. The customer service also requires improvement, staff were not helpful at all. On departure and arrival everything was unorganized from border checks/ passport control to luggage collection. This isn't a temporary issue either, they could have been monitoring this for a long time and changed their procedures accordingly, especially queue management but have made no changes at all. We traveled in April and didn’t enjoy the experience much. Queues at security were stupid, fortunately we had booked express tickets which helped but having carefully packed liquids as instructed went through a new scanner which meant everything was left in the cabin bags. Having to drag cases for 10 minutes from the drop off isn’t a good way to start. Although the airport is having some upgrades it’s essentially dismal and the signage (or rather lack of it) is unacceptable. On return we had to navigate the steps down from the plane walk in the wet to the terminal door up 3 flights of stairs and endless corridors to get to passport control. The only good parts were the duty free which is at least modern and welcoming plus the lounge which thankfully we had booked. We flew to Paris where the airport experience is immeasurably better, modern, spotless and organised. Air bridges to the planes , no waiting at security and plenty of helpful staff on hand , pick up and drop off at the door etc. What people arriving from abroad must make of Birmingham airport I dread to think and a word to Coventry, don’t pay good money to advertise the city in arrivals because you’re doing yourself no favours. Next time I fly it will be from somewhere else, the closeness doesn’t beat the experience. More...

In the end I told one worker should could be a bit more polite. I'm not usually a Karen but this was really poor. I will try and avoid from this point forward. It was my first time travelling from Birmingham Airport, and I was extremely disappointed with the long queue. To go through security, you must use the lifts, but only a few lifts were available for more than 500 people. We decided to use the escalator on the other side of the building, even though the queue for getting upstairs was not long. However, the security check waiting time was unbelievably long. We arrived at the airport two hours before our flights, yet we were the last people to board due to the waiting times. More...

First of all, joining what the others have mentioned, the security queues were dreadful, literally queue after queue with no direction, signage or information from staff. I want to also come and highlight this incident that occurred to me and my boyfriend this morning when we were on our way to our designated flight thats leaving to Sweden at 09:00 One of the staff member, (I didn’t get his name but he was bald, middle aged, tall, grey coloured beard) was particularly rude and unhelpful to us. The situation occurred when we were all squashed to wait for scanning boarding passes. In one situation, the queue was stopped for a moment as they wanted to make more space between the people. This man was lenient with a pair, both caucasian female, who had crossed before me and my boyfriend, and allowed them to cross together with no problem However, when dealing with us, the staff member had an attitude, my boyfriend has passed first but he stopped the gate between us. We have told them that we were a pair and asked if i also can be let through as well, as seen by the pair that went before us had no problem, however for us the staff had just said that it was ‘his (my boyfriend) fault he had passed through the gates, and there was nothing he could do about it’ I have then mentioned that we had a flight to catch since boarding closes 30 mins before departure, and ours was scheduled at 9:00 By 08:10 we were still there, therefore i have spoken up about it, to which the staff had shot back with the comment of how i “wasn’t the only one that has a flight to catch at 09:00” and that it “doesn’t make your (me) case any different or prioritised from the others” After the back and forth, i have asked my boyfriend to just go without me first, to which the staff member then opens the ticket gate again later. Though the exchange wasn’t too prolonged and didn’t affect my time for catching my flight, i find his behaviour very unprofessional and to this i find it very upsetting as well. Not only were the comments he made unnecessarily targeted, but as a person of colour i feel that this was also partially due to unfair treatment because of the colour of my skin, as seen by the drastic difference of treatment between the caucasian pair that had went before us, versus my partner and i, both of asian descent to be dealt with such horrendous treatment when the situation itself was already stressful enough. This whole ordeal has greatly upset both of us, and had given us a very poor impression of birmingham as a whole. We will be avoiding travel from birmingham airport again, and will likewise let our family and friends know to steer clear of this place. More...

This is the first and very last time that I'll ever be visiting Birmingham Airport again. I have never seen such a chaotic and confusing organisation when it comes to security checks and trying to get help from a member of staff which was like trying to get blood from a stone. Queuing for an hour and half to get through to security because of the renovation's they have going on which resulted in us missing our flight. We attempted to ask for assistance from staff multiple times just to be told "you have plenty of time, stay where you are" bare in mind we were in a que waiting for the elavator to take us all up to security that was barely moving. Our flight was at 8am, by 7:30am the same staff members that we and many others had asked for assistance eventually called for everyone who's flight was at 8 so we could get "fast tracked" even though everyone that were waiting in the normal line still had priority over us that they had called they were letting those in the elevator first seems there was no communication between staff whatsoever. We eventually got through security at 7:50am but by that time our flight's gates had closed. Managment was no help either. Had we known they were doing renovation's beforehand we would have set off 4 hours earlier. Just an all round a shambles, avoid at all costs. More...

I've only given 1 star because you can't give zero! Please read the review from Briit just before this one. We were an hour behind them and I completely agree! We were over an hour and a half in a queue only to find the gate closed when we got there. About 25 people also missed the same 8.50 am flight to Glasgow. In the queue we were given no information. When we queried the very few staff dealing with the queues to security we were told there was plenty of time. Occasionally a member of staff would walk past the vast queues asking, "is your flight in the next half hour?" Many people could not hear this. We heard and were moved to the front of the queue. There was then another queue at the security scanners. None of the staff were particularly interested in us or the many others complaining that they were going to miss the flights. Organisation was appalling and for the staff to suggest that it was purely due to new scanners was totally ridiculous. They know how many planes are due to take off and the likely number of passengers. It was just terrible, terrible organisation. Never again Birmingham. A Second City airport? - I wouldn't trust you guys to run a bath let alone an airport! More...

Disruption due to instigation of new check in system which left many passages having to run for flights as by the time they cleared security. The flight had announced Final Call. Location of the gate was also confusing eg., Gate 49D was downstairs but no signage or even human sign post to direct passengers. But the fun didn’t stop there, passengers where delayed at boarding due location of the plane and passengers having to wait be ferried to the plane. Not the best experience. I also didn't appreciate staff telling people in queues, 'to stand closer together, to fill the space, so the queues didn't seem so long". Lest we forget why we had social distancing due Covid. As many others have said the airport is an absolutely nightmare at the moment. I was shocked as there was no indication given when I booked the flights that it would be in this state, so leaving a review as a further warning. Bring a mask - even if you're not concerned about COVID anymore, the queuing "system" involves very long waits with huge crowds crushed into small chambers and corridors. Extremely high likelihood of catching colds and whatever else is about. It is also incredibly hot, to the point of dizziness. Seemingly every other bag gets flagged for a manual check at security, but there isn't an efficient system to deal with this so they pile up, leading to more people pile-ups. My headphones must have been picked up by someone else in the chaos, and one staff member did try to help me find them but eventually sent me to a lost property point in the luggage shop, which the attendant assured me had not been the lost property point for a long time, that this happens frequently, but that they have no idea where lost property actually is. So if you lose something in the airport - good luck! The presumably very stressed and embarrassed staff are not able to offer anything by way of explanation, time predictions or support. When I requested that they help with the queue coming out of the lifts one said "yeah yeah it's all fine" but then continued just to shout "over there for departures", so every time the lifts came down, people confusedly bundled where the staff were pointing, creating a big bottleneck letting the pushiest/strongest people through first, and the rest of us uselessly queuing at the back. I feel very sorry for them as I'm sure they are forced to behave this way by the management who have devised this awful system, and should themselves be down on the floor running it. More...
