Excellent little hotel , set in its own grounds with a picturesque stretch of river , reception , bar and lounge, lovely olde worlde atmosphere from a bygone era, we took the choice of the taster menu for dinner , food was excellent , as was breakfast, only criticism was the maitre d , who deterred from the overall relaxed atmosphere of the hotel , verging on the Basil Fawlty at times , this type of table service adds nothing to the ambiance of the hotel , leave it to the polite and very capable young service staff please.
Went for a family wedding here, would highly recommend this hotel. Amazing staff , food, very professional service Must say James could not do more to help us on the two days we were there. 5 stars is to low for this hotel, . More...
I was treated to a lovely afternoon tea with friends. Good variety of savoury and sweet treats. Old fashioned place with coal fires throughout which gave a chilly November a lovely warm feel.
Lovely location. Reasonably priced food. Good service
Here today for an overnight stay with Afternoon Tea. The whole experience has been great. Friendly staff & excellent service in very quaint surroundings. A very relaxed atmosphere. An Ideal place to unwind and get away from everyday hustle and bustle. More...
My parents stayed at The Roman Camp Hotel during their honeymoon 59 years ago. My family and I have often driven past the rather hidden entrance to the drive, and wondered what it was like. |Last night, to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary, my wife and I decided to stay the night. What a wonderful hotel ! |The gentleman on Reception was great; our room , with jacuzzi bath, was charming; the dinner was delicious; the downstairs reception rooms were delightful and atmospheric; the hotel grounds, and gardens were fantastic. |This morning, bright and early we went down to a stone table and bench beside the River Teith, and sat with our hot chocolates and watched the water flow by. We then wandered around the grounds and walked garden- and said hello to some ponies as well. |The Roman Camp was everything we hoped it would be, and more. |We hope to come back. |ND More...
This is a hidden gem well worth the effort of looking for it. Excellent food and attentive service. We wiil certainly visit again as we travel through to the Highlands||Booking advised as this is very popular
Enchanting old building by the river. Quaint cafe in grounds. Hotel is low rise and hides in the landscape. Peacocks stroll the grounds. Step back in time in the dimly lit entrance and sit by the log fire. A real find just off the main street. More...
More...
This is an amazing comfortable country house hotel. The whole hotel is beautifully furnished in a period style. It has coal fires which add to the ambiance. The breakfasts are great quality with plenty of choice. The staff are well trained and very attentive. The 5 course taster type evening menu is nothing short of masterful. The grounds are spacious and great for a short explore. All in all this is a lovely comfortable hotel. More...
We spent one night and enjoyed dinner at the six hundred year old Roman Camp. The setting is stunning and the building itself, once a hunting lodge for the Earls of Moray, is like going back in time. We had afternoon tea by the fire when we arrived. We walked through the little town and visited the waterfalls, just a short hike from the hotel. Our every need was met by eager staff, sometimes literally at a run. The evening meal began with drinks in the lounge and then offered a set menu which we both chose. This was a lovely dining experience in a gorgeous old room with a big fire place and windows all around. Our food was lovely and the entire experience was a pleasure. More...
Just back from three days stay at the Roman Camp Hotel and all I can say is the whole experience was fantastic from the surroundings to breakfast and meals in the potting shed. The staff are a real credit to the hotel and we will definitely be back, a five minute walk had you in the middle of the Main Street which meant no driving for the duration of our stay. Bracklinn Falls is a real gem to visit, the shops and eateries in Callendar were warm and friendly which added to the whole experience. More...
We stayed here for a couple of nights while walking in the area. The hotel is in a lovely location, off the main road so it’s really quiet. It’s got great character but could probably do with a bit of TLC. Our room was lovely with dual aspect windows, one looked out over a flat roof which the hotel peacocks spent a lot of time on, much to our amusement. We ate in the little bistro restaurant which is in a converted potting shed and it was great. Food was lovely, the service was friendly and it had a great drinks menu. More...
This is the third time we have stayed at this hotel. Each time we have eaten from the tasting menu. It has been different each time and always delicious and cooked to perfection. The eggs at breakfast whether poached or boiled with soldiers are wonderful. More...
We had dinner at the adjacent cottage on evening and stopped by the hotel afterwards. This property is amazing and the grounds around the buildings were very scenic. We sat at the park on the river before dinner and enjoyed the peaceful nature all around. The food was very delicious and they have good options between fish, burgers, and other local culinary choices. If you are looking for formal, I would recommend the Hotel, if you are looking for something cozy and low key you can eat at outside bistro dinning option. The staff was friendly helpful and the food delicious. More...
We went to Roman Camp on a whim, as we were in Scotland for our honeymoon. We went for afternoon tea and can honestly say it was the best experience we have ever had. Staff showed us in and we had a choice of the many rooms to have the afternoon tea in. Each room was decorated with its colour themed Christmas tree. Staff were amazing. The customer service was 5 star and they lit the open fire for us.||The afternoon tea itself was off the scale. So delicious! We were left alone to enjoy and chill, without us feeling like there was no one around. Tea pots were filled up regularly and the fire kept going. They were just the best.||The food was brilliant and staff even boxed up what we couldn’t eat for us to take home. This is the afternoon tea experience that we measure all others against.||When in Scotland next, we will definitely be going there again. More...
Lovely hotel and great location not he river in Callander. Service was a little slow, hard to get hold of a member of staff at times. Also, the bistro was reluctant to serve me dinner and eventually allocated me a table that was almost in the bar!! The food was lovely though to be fair. More...
One evening , we strolled down the road and found this Hotel. We were too late for dinner but the staff were delightful and served us a drink from the bar and allowed us to enjoy their parlor. This was a beautiful room, replete with art works and fine furnishings of a bygone era. Spectacular! We were not staying in this hotel but I would guess that a stay here would be a special event. They were getting ready for a wedding the following day but we greatly appreciated their serving us, even though it was a bit late. Just delightful experience. Their grounds are also very beautiful. We stay for 1 night in one of their vittorian room and we also had dinner in their restaurant. Their location is absolutely amazing. They have 4 wonderful common rooms where the guests can have an aperitive before dinner in front of a warm fireplace. The waiter will take your order from there and he will accompany at the table when the dinner is ready. You can take the menu of the day or order a la carte. We choose the menu that was composed by 2 starter (scallops and a pea soup), 1 main (duck) and 1 dessert. After that you can choose to stay at the table or go back to the fireplace rooms to have a coofee or a tea with some sweets. Service was outstanding for all the evening and thd food was well cooked and well presented. As for the night we slept really well in our rooms with very good bed and pillows. Overall was a worthy experience at a reasonable price. I highly reccomend to stay at roman camp hotel! More...

Très « scottish »..
Sehr gediegene Unterkunft. Obwohl ein bisschen schwülstig, fühlen wir uns sehr wohl.

A full enough menu to cover breakfast, snacks or a selection of meals. Coffee and cakes also on offer. The food was beautifully presented and thoroughly enjoyed. The well kept building and the well appointed common areas added to the historical feel of the hotel. The quiet location along the river was appreciated after a long drive..
Le style très « Scottish » Le cottage est très joli et bien entretenu De nombreux salons très cosy pour boire un verre ou jouer du piano Parc tout autour avec une rivière au bout du jardin. Superbe! The bathroom needs to be cleaned properly the wall tiles have black mould and the water drainage was very slow due to pipes running the wrong way and the light tunnel was very dirty so not much light
Interesting building, friendy staff who took the trouble to learn our names, excellent food and service in lovely restaurant setting, and well placed for exploring both the town and countryside. Only disappointment was the bistro which we had hoped to visit for lunch but looked scruffy and the staff seemed to be hiding so we changed our minds. More...

My Mrs and I went away for three nights to three hotels and THIS one was the cream of the crop. Indeed, of the many places we've stayed, this was one of the loveliest and most romantic we've ever been to. There were also people returning having had their wedding there years ago, they absolutely adored it. This place was just luxury for us. Shabby? Chic? Perhaps. It was oldy worldy and we adored it. The service was magnificent, the meals just SPOT on, the room, the bed, the bars and the number of places to sit, then there's the grounds and the gardens, totally in keeping with the whole set up. For someone who doesn't like going to the same place twice, we'll be back, but this time at Christmas. I really don't have enough superlatives for the Roman Camp. Go. See for yourself. More...
