What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
It sounds cliched but being in the right place at the right time, i.e. luck, is often a big factor in producing a desirable image. However I personally don't believe there is a secret to taking a great photograph - having an eye for a picture and a basic understanding of composition is more than enough to produce successful images.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
I always try to get a feel for what the client is expecting the final images to look like. For example, can they visualise how the image will look, and have they any particular style in mind, b&w or colour images, etc? I also like to get an understanding of the clients tastes and interests so that I can try and align the final images with them for a truly personal product.
What do you love most about your job?
I enjoy the creative process of photography and also enjoy the challenge and pressure that comes with being asked to produce images that meet the client brief. My personal style also challenges people to look at places they are familiar with from a different perspective and I enjoy the reaction when people gain a new insight into something they already know so well.
What inspired you to start your own business?
Becoming a professional photographer evolved from being a passionate amateur photographer for a number of years. As more and more people praised my work I felt I had and opportunity to grow what was effectively my hobby into a sustainable business.
