What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
Taking a great picture is a reflex. After nearly five years of photography, I know how to capture images that make my clients smile. A great picture is not first and foremost something that looks good, it’s somethig that makes you feel great - and thats what most wedding and event photography is about.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
Sometimes clients don’t actually know what it is they are looking for. When I speak to my clients I try to find out more about their potential vision. If they don’t have a vision I start to ask them about what they would like to feel and see when they look at their wedding album. Do they want pretty scenic posed shots of the bridal party, and family members? Do they want the majority of the album to be of gorgeous pictures of the bride and groom, or are they after a story and a narrative of how the day unfolds and progresses. Some clients just want something very unique, artistic, and different-always an interesting challenge? Working backwards from this vision of what the album should look like helps my clients and I to figure out what I should be shooting throughout the day. Often my clients find these conversations very useful, and it gets the creative juices flowing, increasing the chances that everybody is happy at the end of the day with the finished product!
What do you love most about your job?
The positive and complimentary remarks I get from happy clients when I go beyond their expectations and deliver an on point product. It’s one of the best feelings in the world; it’s almost as good as getting paid! Nothing beats knowing that you have done a good job, and your clients acknowledging that, and thanking you for your hard work with lumps in their throats and tears in their eyes!
What inspired you to start your own business?
Photography for me is a form of art that can invoke powerful emotions, when done correctly. I enjoy capturing people, moments and events in such a way that my clients and I am moved by the pictures. Starting a photography business was a way of allowing me to experience that high of creating artistic photographs of a high standard and having people appreciate it and reward me for it.
