I live locally to John in Kenilworth and have been having weekly lessons now for just over 12 weeks, and I have far exceeded where I expected to be at this stage of my development. I have started from scratch and thanks to Johns structured plan and guidance the journey so far has been relatively straightforward. Now I have learnt the basics, I plan to continue having regular lessons to keep progressing. I have had lessons from several guitar teachers in Coventry and I can honestly say that John is the most patient and passionate I know. His knowledge of the instrument is second to none and his explanations of music theory makes the fog a lot clearer. I stopped lessons for around 2 years but started again a couple of months ago as I had reached a point where I was not progressing. With Johns guidance I am definitely seeing improvements and look forward to my weekly fix. John Oswin is an excellent guitarist and an excellent teacher. He can play and teach all styles from classical to heavy rock. Furthermore, he plays and teaches keyboards, although this is not a path I chose to follow. What he did do is teach me improvisation techniques to work around my first love which is the blues. John is a fantastic teacher. He is very patient and really knows how to build your confidence. Great for beginners or for more accomplished musicians he has a very engaging style and makes learning fun. I bought my first guitar when i was 40 so learning was never going to be easy. I had my first lesson with John a week later and with his encouragement and understanding I have made great progress and more importantly haven't stopped playing in the 15 year since then. I decided at the age of 50 to stop wishing I could play piano and just try some lessons. John is an amazing teacher, he takes the mystery out of music. I have been having lessons with John for a few months and have gone from a beginner with no understanding of music and not being able to play to understanding music and being able to not just play guitar but play with others John is not just a teacher but a mentor who has helped me on my journey to becoming a musician, rather than just a beginner trawling youtube trying to learning to play with no structure, having lessons with John gives that much needed structure around the techniques necessary to play all styles of music on the guitar.
And he's a top bloke that makes a nice cuppa.

John is clearly a very multi disciplined musician. I started lessons with John after struggling to navigate the thousands of videos on YouTube.
I needed structure and a path to follow. Over the past 4 months John has demonstrated to me that if there is genre, song or rythem I don’t understand he can teach it in such a way that I will.
I have been very happy with my progress with John as I’m sure you will too.

What do you love most about your job?
I love the look on my students' faces when they see and hear the improvement in their playing and are reaching their musical goals. Either playing for purely pleasure, entertaining friends, getting into a band, passing an exam grade or going to university to study music,it's all great fun and enriches your life. You can't beat it!
This is my reward and satisfaction of a job well done, teaching people who get a buzz from learning to play, which feels amazing for them and me too The best job in the world!
