We then infill all the area with a 20mm dense base course binder tarmac and roll it at a thickness of 50mm.

The final topping is laid and rolled to smooth finish, this is usually 6mm dense wearing course tarmac but there are other grades available, this is laid at 25 mm thickness. Finally any debris is cleared and the area is washed down.

Tarmacadam, properly referred to as bituminous macadam or “Bitmac” for brevity, is often thought to be the cheapest method of surfacing a driveway or forecourt, black tarmac is cheaper than the red tarmac, the red tarmacadam can be more expensive than block paving.

Tarmac has become a popular to surface pavements, highways and even internal floors. Tarmac is suitable for areas to be trafficked by vehicles, such as a drive or forecourt, and can be used for paths, with a mixture of block paved borders or decorative designs within the tarmac your new driveway will be enhanced and pleasing to the eye.

The surface course can be coloured by using a binder, often with colored aggregates, or by incorporating coated stone chippings into a HRA wearing course.
