How do you help your clients achieve their fitness goals?
My approach to fitness recognises that "one size does not fit all". People in their 40s, 50s and 60s have different motivations for improving their fitness than somebody in their 20s or 30s. The gym is often a place where older people feel ill at ease, with somebody in their 20s shouting at a group of people accompanied by the thump, thump of a club music! They also have different things happening to their body as they get older which are often just ignored, but have an important effect on what they can and can't do. In short the challenges of staying fit as you get older are considerable and you need somebody who understands these issues and can get results fast, whether it weight loss or just improved stamina and strength.
What’s the secret to getting the body of your dreams?
Everybody wants to feel and look good no matter what their age. I focus on body weight exercises which minimise the potential for injury and I cover three main areas in what I call my SPA Approach. This stands for (S)tretching, (P)ower and (A)erobic Capacity. Stretching is essential for older people as we all know how we start to get stiff and less supple as the years advance. It is not a well know fact that we start to lose muscle power from around 30 and this accelerates as the years go by up to 3% per year and over! Muscle is not only key to do things it is also vital for our health that it is maintained. This process (Osteopenia) can be held back and even reversed using the right approach. Aerobic capacity is our ability to climb the stairs and do the shopping, etc. Again we lose this capability as we get older but it is reversible, so we can still enjoy all the things we used to.

The best part of my job is seeing people start to be positive about life and taking the view that you are only limited if you think you are!
What inspired you to start your own business?
I am in an older person who has always been into fitness but I get annoyed that the fitness industry seems to focus only on those who look good lycra! We all have one life and we need to make the most of it.
Why should our clients choose you?
My approach is different, I don't fit the mould. I qualified as a fitness instructor in 2017 in my 60s and then completed my Personal Trainer certificate in 2018 and my Medical Referral exams earlier this year. I understand the challenges that getting fit and staying fit for people in my age group and I focus on understanding what is happening to our bodies and the best way to counteract these unwelcome developments. During lockdown I delivered weekly on-line exercises for a charity in Leeds. These were live Facebook sessions.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
Working with the NHS I follow strict rules on mask wearing, social distancing and hand cleanliness. I am also double jabbed.
Personal Training
I offer tailored fitness sessions either on-line or in-person. I offer a free initial consultation along with a planned programme of exercises over a 6 to 12 week to ensure you achieve your goals. Goals can be weight loss, firming and toning or improved cardio performance and endurance. The initial consultation will establish a base line with on-going assessments to ensure targets will be met.
