How can someone tell if their Garage is suitable for conversion?
Someone can convert their garage whether its suitable or not it depends. If property is leasehold they need to check their property deeds for any restrictive covenants. Some developers place a restriction on any building work that will affect the external appearance of the house. If there is such a clause, contact them, as it can often be circumvented for a fee. No planning permission is required to do a garage conversion, someone usually only need to apply for planning permission to convert his/her garage when he/she intend to extend the actual size of the garage. In terms of building regulations, if someone plan to convert any part of their house into a room to be used as habitable space, they will need to comply with government building regulations. A building control officer will probably need to check their garage conversion a number of times during construction
