My name is Paul Johnson of Mere Brow Gundogs. We offer a variety of dog training and dog related services in the West Lancashire, Southport, Preston and Chorley area. We offer In-Home dog training, In-Kennel training, private lessons, behaviour modification, gundog training and the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme classes.

So far we’ve only been the once, but what a difference in my dogs behavior. I took him on a hill walk that afternoon and he walked close to my left leg for the last half of walk. ....without his lead on! He would never normally do that. He’d be half a mile ahead. Lol. I started puppy classes with Paul and Laura when Poppy was 12 weeks old. In 9 weeks I have a dog that recalls to a whistle and her name, she sits and doesn’t move until told, she walks to heel and even comes back when other dogs or distractions are around her.

I recently had a 1 yr old springer given to me by a friend, he didnt have much in the way of training and was pretty ignorant and unruly so i got in touch with paul booked us both in for 1 on 1 training which was a massive eye opener for me!
!! 1st lesson went really well so we have had regular lessons i think 4 lessons so far in the 3 weeks iv had Ted and the difference is in him is unbelievable. I would highly recommend anyone to get in touch with paul he is down do earth very informative, detailed and methodical in everything he says and does with your dog no matter how far along you are with your training!!! I look forward to every lesson

Paul was recommended by a friend to help us with our wayward Vizsla / GSP cross as she was a serial absconder. We’d tried with three other reputable and recommended trainers but none of them could get reliable recall. Within six weeks (one hour 1:1 a week, so 6 hours total) we had the dog we always dreamed of. She comes back EVERY time, instantly, she stops reliably on the whistle, and heels perfectly off the lead. Our dogs Lady and Shadow stayed with Paul for 2 months. We have done a lot of work with Shadow for fear aggression which developed after his stay in a highly reputable boarding kennels several years ago and were very apprehensive about where he boarded. Lady as a collie cross requires a lot of exercise. No need to worry. Both dogs returned absolutely shattered and Shadow has gained even more confidence. What do you love most about your job?
Paul combines an instinctive understanding of what motivates dogs to behave the way they do with patience and a firm results-oriented manner that dogs and owners alike respond to. Dog training is not just a hobby for Paul - it is the culmination of a lifelong passion. He will approach his work training your dog with the same spirit that guided him in years of successfully competing in field trials and tests with his working spaniels.
Since 2014, Paul has owned and trained German Shepherds. Training and working his own dogs every day gives him an invaluable insight into the various training methods available and gives him chance to perfect his techniques. Mere Brow Gundogs has access to fantastic training grounds offering a variety of terrain and training environments, including an indoor school.
Paul's aim is to train successful dogs and provide a happy and positive experience for handlers and dogs.
What inspired you to start your own business?
Paul developed very successful puppy, adult dog and gundog training classes, but became well known for his behavioural modification training. Taking on dogs with behavioural issues and integrating them into a group for training.

Why should our clients choose you?
I am a behaviourist and dog trainer who is passionate about positive, reward based training using gentle and force free methods to help our dogs live a happy balanced life. I utilise quick and easy training methods to teach dog owners how to understand and properly communicate with their dogs to create a positive, productive and lasting relationship.
We can offer training, help and advice for all dog behavioural issues including those caused by stress and anxiety. I have been involved in training and helping dogs with behavioural issues for over 10 years.
We need to communicate to our dogs what it is we want from them and not keep telling off and punishing what we don’t want.
