Taking our Golden Retriever Lois to training at Mad Dog Club has been the best thing we’ve ever done! We can take her literally take her anywhere and do anything with her! Everywhere we go the first thing people say to us is “wow isn’t she good!”. We have done both agility and obedience here for over two yrs and we still love every minute of it! Dom and Neil r both extremely knowledgeable and engaging and I can’t thank them enough! Highly recommended 😍😍😍 xx More...

After adopting Lottie at 16months old we knew we needed expert training. Neil at Mad Dog training was that person. He has not only taught Lottie well but also given us the skills, advice and much more to make our staffyx a happier, calmer girl. Our daughter in law had not visited for a year due to Lottie jumping and her excitement, but after Neil visited our home and taught us how to use a crate for calmness, we had a wonderful family evening. If you need 121 training do not hesitate to choose M.A.D. Training. Amazing!! More...

Fantastic trainers! I have had a number of 1-2-1 sessions with Dominique & Neil to help with my dog's reactivity. Their training & guidance means taking Rags for a walk now is no longer a stressful experience, but an enjoyable one for both of us. We've been able to move on to group sessions now with Neil & other reactive dogs & I consistently see improvement in Rags' behaviour around them. The best thing I've done for me and my dog. More...

I have always found classes to be fun and focused on the different dogs needs. Dom, Maureen and Neil are all very approachable and helpful. They offer a variety of opportunities working towards KC awards, agility and man trailing. They take time to explain why behaviour occurs and how to help your dog overcome it in a positive fun way. The one thing they don’t do is promise any quick fixes and explain that thing’s learned in class need to be practiced. More...

Been with mad dog for 3 years+ now. This is my first time owning a dog and without the support of Dom, Maureen, Neil and the other club members I wouldn’t be where I am today. So supportive and reassuring in class and outside of class. It has been hard and I struggled trusting my dog off lead in the safety of the class never mind generally on a walk. Now she can run free. Only trouble is the training gets addictive, especially the agility and you suddenly find you have a whole new group of crazy friends (family). More...

We have learned so much and my dog really enjoys the stimulation and varied activities. Dom is an excellent trainer and explains everything & demonstrates, plus gives us all homework to practice between sessions she also backs this up by videos sent to us via what’s app. The classes are small 7 at the most and safety is paramount. I used this trainer about 3 years back and did not find it helpful at all. It was my first dog so really needed guidance but the ways they had me teach him were terrible for a working dog. My dog was also attacked during class when a staffy was practicing recall and it made a b line for my dog who had his back to the attacking dog. I was separated from the group like it was my fault and the reasoning the trainer gave me was that its because my dog is tall. Absolutely ridiculous. I'd avoid this place if you have a working dog. Definitely puts the MAD in mad dog. More...

I started beginners agility with my 3 year old dog luna in May and we are having so much fun! We either use a riding school indoor or more recently an agility field on grass, both of which are safe surfaces to train on. Although the training feels slow to start, all the initial effort has huge rewards when it all comes together and you start doing mini courses. Have been to two one to one sessions with Dominique, amazing progress already she really knows her stuff. My pup is reactive (fear based), and has been to two dog schools and three trainers previously who all used either half checks or promoted the use of slip leads. Terrible, the puppy classes are only suitable for puppies in their first 5 months, they are not suitable for more lively or confident dogs who just get shut in the corner (literally) and receive no positive training. If your dog does anything other than sit and sleep this class will not be helpful. The trainer’s methods completely rely on buying specific items ... from her. If you don’t do this she will proceed to make patronising comments at you throughout the sessions. My dog entered these classes as happy and excitable and left them (early) as frustrated, which is displayed as growling at other dogs, something he’d never done before these groups. The trainer clearly enjoys telling owners what a bad job they’ve done with their dogs, and what issues your dog has. However, she never actually offers any solutions or methods of improving their behaviour. More...

Q&As

We use non-aversive training methods and aim to teach you to train your dog effectively.

Services

We hold regular puppy training courses at our venue in Southport as well as puppy one-to-one home visits. Home visits can include obedience training such as walking on a loose lead, jumping up, mouthing etc as well as household training such as toileting, and crate training.

This includes aggressive behaviour towards other dogs
Resource guarding

We appreciate that it isn't always possible to attend classes with your dog, some dogs' personalities are not suited to class environments, and sometimes owners may just prefer one-to-one sessions.

As such, we offer tailored one-to-one sessions either in your own home, or at our venue in Southport. The duration and frequency will be dependent on both the reason for the session and your requirements.

We offer one-to-one sessions for both general training such as: walking on a loose lead for dogs who pull, recall for dogs who don't come when called, house training, jumping up, crate training general obedience etc or any training requirement for a dog who can't make any of our classes
