We stayed here when visiting Chesire Oaks to avoid a drive home in the dark. So our experience, except for the bar prices, was excellent. ||Plus points: a great price for the accommodation, a large quiet bedroom, excellent shower and a good breakfast with plenty of choice. We were especially grateful that we were allowed to change the date of our visit when my wife was taken ill a day before we were due to travel originally.||My only grumble was the price of a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, £12.50. This really is taking the mick. We ate out so cannot comment on the food or service in the restaurant. More...

My husband, children and I visited Craxton Wood for a short weekend stay before Christmas. The hotel is lovely and the grounds are lush and pretty. The room was a family one. It was comfortable, very clean and enough room for the 4 of us including a very busy toddler. The breakfast which was buffet style was delicious. Plenty of options for a family with a couple of fussy eaters! I visited the spa for an hour of ‘me’ time which was much needed! The treatment I had was a massage and it was amazing. Only wish I could have had longer. Finally a thank you to the lady on reception who helped organise paper, sellotape and a pen for my daughter who wanted desperately to make a card! Thank you for a lovely stay. More...

King room was a good size and clean. Bed was very comfy. Didn’t hear any noise from other rooms so got a great nights sleep. Didn’t use the restaurant Or Spa due to other reviews. Needs modernising but a nice room and location for a nights stay. The grounds looked lovely but didn’t have time to look around them as we were busy Christmas shopping. More...

I attended the spa with my step mum and had a really good time and we both had treatments , however I had gel nails done but the first time I had them done the therapist just said to let them dry naturally, however I ended up smuggling them , I went to reception and the staff were very receptive and offers to re-do my nails which I accepted and was happy to have re done by Hannah who was very good and attended to everything with a positive attitude. She was very friendly and helpful . Tammy was very helpful by sorting me and my step mum out with complimentary drinks , Hannah used the uvlight to dry my nails which was much better and I had a better quality of nails . More...

Nice hotel set in beautiful grounds....very good swimming pool and gym attached. Our room was very big.....very plain and hotel like, but large and well equipped. The bar is well stocked and prices are reasonable and the restaurant is good with nice food....esoecially the desserts!||The main thing about the place is the staff....they are all very friendly and helpful, noticably so.....and it seems natural, not forced. We have been a few times, and will definitely return. More...

We wanted somewhere quiet and comfortable the night before dad’s funeral on 13th November and we found it. The building is lovely and the grounds are extensive. Our room, 115, was clean, fresh, newly decorated AND properly wheelchair accessible. I found the mattress a bit too hard and the pillow divine and my husband found the mattress perfect and the pillow a bit too soft. Some people are just too hard to please we decided but we both slept well despite the driving rain all night. The bathroom was perfect except for the ‘slippery when wet’ floor tiles, which is a normal mistake for hotels. The evening meals we had were freshly cooked, tasty and filling. All the staff were efficient, helpful and friendly. Breakfast was the usual buffet choice and I asked for my eggs to be freshly fried so I was quite happy. I would have been happier if the kitchen had almond or oat milk, especially these days but I would happily return there but would call first to make sure they had my milk in. The cost was surprisingly inexpensive, about the same as the local Travelodges and Premier Inns which are my default choices because of their standard wheelchair accessibility, so I was rather chuffed to have the change. Really liked it here. There is room for improvement in a couple of areas though. We had to go to reception to ask for more teabags, slippers and a iron, room not stocked up. The evening meals are mediocre, offered curry soup and expected something really tasty but was really disappointed. The vegetable soup evening before was more flavoursome. The breakfasts were OK, although waiting time to get a pot of tea was unacceptably long. Some staff were very good, Doreen at breakfast was very welcoming and cheery. Long gap in between courses and plates at breakfast cold. Simply, attention to detail needs more attention and our stay would have been top notch. More...

A comfortable stay in a welcoming hotel, we would definitely stay here again. Our family room could do with a refurb as it's rather tired looking and fusty smelling. .. however it was quiet (as we were at the end of a corridor) and for the 3 of us- myself and my 2 children it was really comfortable. I think it may have been slightly different if I'd had to share my bed as it was very springy, but for one person I had a fantastic sleep... which is so rare in a hotel.Everything was made easy as Chester Zoo & the Designer Outlet were a short 10 minute drive away and we had both breakfast and an evening meal at the hotel too. The pool facilities were good, I always appreciate a section just for adult lane swimmers. We will return next year and definitely stay at this hotel. More...

I stayed with a friend at the caxton for a one night spa break.||Positives - the hotel was easy to access and had plenty of parking. The gardens were pleasant and sitting in the conservatory or swimming in the pool gave views of the outdoor spaces. The staff went the extra mile for us. The spa is well equipped and well decorated. Gwen gave me one of the best massages I've had before. The promised missing fruit after our massage was rectified by a plateful to take back to our room. The food was very good quality in the deal and Doreen made sure we had everything we needed for breakfast. ||Negatives - service in the restaurant very friendly but very slow. Our room though well equipped smelt a little damp. ||All in all though a great value break with very friendly staff. Would definitely visit again.| More...

Blown away by our wonderful evening celebrating Mum and sisters birthday on Friday. We were all looking forward to being entertained by Rocket man and were not disappointed. Every single member of staff that we came into contact with were very friendly, helpful and efficient and bent over backwards to ensure our every need was catered to. There were plates decorated with chocolate writing and mini cakes for both of the birthday girls, along with cards. After the delicious 3 course meal the attentive staff came out with 2 birthday cakes with sparklers in and all came around the table to sing happy birthday which was so lovely. Our bedroom was lovely with super comfortable beds and all amenities provided. We also enjoyed a delicious breakfast in the morning with huge choices to cater to every palate. Our mum is disabled and uses a wheelchair to get around which she was able to do with ease. All in all a most enjoyable time was had by all 6 of us and we hope more theme nights will be on for us to attend. Well done Craxton Wood, your staff are a credit to you. More...
