Describe your creative process.
My approach is flexible, as every job is different, but first of all, let's talk! We can grab a cuppa - or talk on the phone, or email. Whatever suits you.
It’s helpful if you already have a brief, but if not, we can discuss your requirements and talk about timings and budget.
I will need to understand your brand’s positioning by looking at competitors, market trends, differentiators and the history (and future plans) of your business. I often use mood boards at this point, which we can use to plan design direction and strategy.
The ideas stage comes next. I’ll take some time to experiment with concepts and then present them to you as sketches, computer visuals or
mock-ups - whatever works best.
After making decisions on direction, we can now start to fine-tune things. I’ll add final touches and we’ll pin down elements like paper stock, print finishes, fonts and imagery. We may also need to discuss handing over files to a third party, such as a printer, art worker or web developer.
What information do you need from a client before you can start work?
Timings and budget are important and I always require a contract to be signed.
What do you love most about your job?
I love the challenge of solving problems with creativity and making ideas work. Every day is different and no two jobs are the same. Working with people from all kinds of backgrounds is a real pleasure, and I find much value in collaborating with other industry professionals - photographers, illustrators, lettering artists and web developers, to name but a few.
What inspired you to start your own business?
After 13 years of working in fast-paced design studios in Bristo, London and Surrey, I decided it was time to set up on my own. My family and I moved back to South Staffordshire, and although life is still crazy busy, being my own boss has given me the flexibility I need as a working mum.
