This review was written during the Indian Summer of 2013 and thus my opinions are swayed thusly. Food-wise, this is rather disturbingly the cheapest shop on the high street because the other shops are more expensive by omission; the only shop that can compete on price is the Co-Op. (Lidl's off the main high street and thus doesn't count.) The Tesco Express officially at the end of the high street but officially about two thirds of the way down the shopping area, as an Express store, sells very few everyday value items AND charges Express pricing, so there are many £1, 50p, £1.50 and £2 items which Tesco'll charge you £1.05, 53p, £1.58 and £2.10 that are the recommended retail prices. Waitrose doesn't have a value range and, technically, neither does Iceland. In addition, many products are price marked so are immune from RRP ignorance demonstrated by many of the big supermarkets; pringles, £2.61 in Tesco Express, will cost you £1.79 here. The only thing that is greatly cheaper is tins of drink, which are cheaper in Seoul Plaza next door. (Their usual clientele buys whatever Koreans drink - I can't read Korean! They don't sell so many commercial drinks.) However, in this heat, you are probably better off buying a slush puppy - a small one is 70p and is gorgeously refreshing. I worked with a very big company for years and decided to do it alone.
