How can someone tell if their Garage is suitable for conversion?
Most Garages are suitable for conversion, normally with permitted development rights and not requiring planning permission
Building Regulation approval is always required regardless
Run us through the different stages of the Garage conversion process - what's involved?
First you will require an existing building survey of the property to ascertain the requirements involved in converting the garage, existing services that may require alteration and the like
Following that a suitable plan of work can be drawn up for submission to Building Control and for construction purposes
A typical conversion will involve insulating the existing walls and floors, infilling the garage door on a new foundation and forming a window opening
How can someone tell if their loft is suitable for conversion?
The two main challenges in a loft conversion are fitting a staircase into the existing first floor level and having the required headroom associated for this.
Most lofts can be converted with a headroom of around 2.4m at the ridge or above - anything less than this will not give you the best value for money for the space created.

Structural alterations first, usually requiring the installation of steel beams to provide purlin support, upgrade of existing rafters and ridge support
Independent floor installed to prevent overloading the ceiling and fire protection
