I have known Jonathan for over 20 years. When we first moved into our home, Jonathan designed and made the blinds and curtains. Over the last two decades, Jonathan has been on hand to upgrade, refurbish various soft furnishings and help with new design ideas for bathrooms, bedrooms, kitchen etc. working with me as the needs of the family home change. Jonathan is easy to work with as he listens to the brief, takes time to think about the task, find solutions and suggests innovative ideas. He keeps in mind the client's wishes, personal taste and style, budget and the practicalities of carrying out the job with the least hassle possible to the home. His contractors have been excellent and respectful. I have no hesitation in recommending Jonathan to help with interior plans big and small. He listens to your ideas and gets the job done within budget and within the time frame promised. More...

Jonathan is a very imaginative, resourceful and respectful of budget concerns interior designer who continuously strives to find ways in which he can make the interior, not only beautiful but also functional. I saw him completely transforming a tiny and narrow flat and project managed the demolition and reconstruction of walls to open up space. He introduced custom made and stylish storage areas, bought and cut to size beautiful sofas and created a modern and inviting interior throughout. I was very impressed with the transformation he provided and how much he cared for the project and his clients. More...

Fantastic service provided. We were working with a small, awkward, kitchen and living area, which has now been totally transformed. Jonathan listened to our basic ideas, came up with perfect recommendations and first-class project management. We went through the whole process - knocking walls down, fitting kitchens, upgrading floors and choosing decor, furniture and furnishings. It was fun, we could relax knowing everything was under control and all within our budget.
A great eye for colour and design and we could not be happier. We are about to embark on our second project together.

Working with Jonathan, it soon became apparent that he is an extremely professional interior designer. He is very knowledgeable in all aspects of design and is an innovative and creative person. Additionally, he has a really good understanding of how to organise all other works like electrics, plumbing and carpentry, etc. This meant that we were able to leave it completely up to him to not only design our new kitchen, but take care of the removal of the old one and the entire installation of the new one.

So for us, the whole refurbishment project was completely hassle free - and was carried out very closely to the original budget Jonathan had set. We would highly recommend him and his company for any interior projects.

Q&A

It’s all about you - thus there is no ‘one fits all’ process.

We start with learning about your lifestyle, your aspirations for your home and your budget.
Then we can start planning the creation of a space that will best fit into your way of living. During this stage, we will different advice and solutions and introduce you to ideas you have probably not considered before.

Our aim is to produce concepts that are balanced and harmonious, whilst ensuring that our designs are as functional as they are beautifying.

In essence, we always work towards meeting our stated mission of bringing - innovation, cohesion, and functionality - to everything we do.

We cater for all styles, though it is generally thought that interior design styles can be characterized in seven groups:

CONTEMPORARY/MODERN – Look at anything in fashion at any given current time and, by pure definition, that is contemporary. However, ‘Modern’ is a slightly more subjective and is relative to the circumstances and perspective of the beholder. Contemporary and modern combined together are a popular fusion.

TRADITIONAL - This is the style usually associated with period features of recent centuries, in properties and design. As a rule, but not exclusively, in this style of interior design, we would expect to see features such as antique and reproduction furniture, period fireplaces, feature mouldings, elaborate window treatments and the like.

CLASSICAL - This genre has its roots in the work of the ancient Romans and Greeks - the founders of what today we understand to be the basis of interior design. The most obvious indicators of the ‘Classical ‘style is the Ionic, Doric and Corinthian Orders and columns, marble statues, the intricate and extensive use of geometry in space planning and aesthetics, the lavish use of precious metals, incorporation of the worship of heavenly bodies and so on.

ECLECTIC - Interior design in the form of ‘Eclectic’ is perhaps the most difficult genre to adequately define. Mainly because it is anything its owner wants it to be. Eclectic interior is often a combination of mismatches, it conforms to no other tradition and is full of surprises. It mixes the known with the unknown and often shocks with its gaudiness.

COUNTRY/RUSTIC - Many a rural cottage might give an insight into this particular interior design style. Wedgewood crockery, Laura Ashley style fabrics and Pine furniture are just a few of the elements to be found in the typical country/rustic home. This interior design format is usually warm in texture and colour.

MINIMALIST - Designing in this genre, we keep everything sparse, functional and pure. Minimalist design often relies on light colour tones and/or monochrome effects to emphasise its simplicity. Its style can sometimes be seen as rather masculine.

INDEFINABLE - From a designer’s point of view, if an interior does not fit into any of the categories set out above, it needs a title to separate it. For us, that is ‘Indefinable’.

There is so much to enjoy when your work is creative. Learning new things, tips and tricks bring new life into our work.

Seeing the final project when everything has been brought together is the ‘wow’ moment but the real sense of satisfaction comes from having a happy client, who shares our enthusiasm for the work we’ve put our heart and soul into.

We love to see the big picture whilst giving meticulous attention to detail in a combination that is better than we see from the work of many of our competitors.

I started my own Interior Design business many years ago, as a culmination of all my previous career achievements – from designing and building display equipment and shop fittings for department stores and premier High Street outlets, to running my own soft furnishings retail outlet.

In a way, it was a natural progression; having an achievement instinct, being naturally creative and innovative and always having had a good eye for detail. Marrying all those personal traits with a solid formal training, ultimately led to my incorporation of Jonathan Charles Interior Design Limited.

We have the expertise, experience, knowledge and flexibility needed to provide a first-class service. We see the big picture whilst giving meticulous attention to detail in a combination better than we see from the work of many of our competitors.

Unlike some of our competitors, we always pass on a percentage of trade discounts we receive when purchasing on behalf of our clients.
