Therapist

I’ve worked with John for over 6 months. He is an extremely patient person and is willing to help on an issue no matter what it is. He’s guided me on techniques that help anxious episodes and gave me a lot of advice on ways to cope with different situations. I would recommend John to a person of any age. I worked with him in person and via video call, both occasions he has always made me feel comfortable and feel able to express myself. More...

Counselling

I worked with John for a number of months. I had various issues relating to anger and bereavement. We explored things that I have never spoken about to anybody before (but felt comfortable in doing so) and explored ways in which I could cope better with my feelings. I can honestly say, that John has helped me to change my life. I now feel that I can deal with issues in a far more constructive, positive and rational way. John is so friendly and empathetic. I cannot recommend him highly enough and will forever be grateful for everything that he has helped me to achieve. Thank you so much, John. More...

Counselling

For my first time doing therapy I was lucky enough to find John straight away, he helped me make sense of things and think clearly, differentiating what’s normal and what’s an affect from traumatic experiences, etc. I’ve improved so much but I also know that if it ever changes then johns always there. Such an understanding, funny and kind man, one of the best decisions I’ve made for myself. Highly recommend. More...

Counselling

John is an excellent and considerate therapist who works with you and guides you through what you want to talk about without dictating and forcing you to uncomfortable situations. John is very easy to talk to and makes you feel at ease. He never pushes you further than you want to go but at the same time he allows you time to explain your situations and problems properly without interrupting your flow. He encourages you to engage with the therapeutic process in the most positive manner. John in conclusion is an excellent therapist who I’d highly recommend for anyone looking for a compassionate and professional therapist. More...

As well as listening to me with no judgement at all, we are able to have a laugh as well. I look forward to our chats every week and I’m looking forward to seeing where we end up on my journey More...

Depression Counselling

I would highly recommend John. He has helped me loads in the last few weeks and I feel much more positive going forward. At first I was uncertain of talking to a man as I felt my problems would have been ‘better understood’ by a woman. Thankfully I couldn’t have been more wrong! He is a brilliant therapist. Thank you 😊 More...

Depression Counselling

John connected with my 15 year old son straight away. He put my son at ease and communicated with him in a way that made him open up and John was able to successfully guide him. My son is a happier boy post lockdown now, and he has become more confident already. It has only been a few weeks and I can be rest assured that John will continue to guide him through his worries and troubles. John maintains confidentiality and my son trusts him implicitly. John also takes the time to feedback to me when appropriate and only when my son agrees. John has assured me that he would automatically divulge information if there was a safety issue.
We feel very blessed to have found John. We highly recommend him. Thank you.

Therapist

Being a young individual opening up to therapy was daunting and a big step. However, from my first session John made me extremely welcome and was a great friendly character, Johns previous work within a school allowed him to easily understand the issues a young person would face and was very understanding of my situation. With having a busy college schedule John was very flexible with our sessions, making it easy for me to balance my work load. I would Strongly recommended him to any young individual. More...

Therapist

For me it was a very daunting step starting counselling, but from the beginning John has made it very easy and made me feel very comfortable. His experience and use of multiple methods has meant we have been able to work through various areas. Even during this current time, we have moved our sessions to Skype which has worked very well, and don’t think it has taken away from the sessions at all. I would highly recommend John. More...

I have struggled with counceling etc due to anxioty but John had since first session always made me feel conformable always really flexible, kind and understanding to anything I was going thru. I always felt really comfortable to open up to him and that doesn't happend very often for me. He is always just a phone call away when you need a chat or anything. I really could have not asked for a better therapist thru this time and now I am attending some rehabilitation and he is still there for me helping me get thru it all. Really appreciate it all and I'm really thankfull for all his help. I would recommend him to anyone who is going thru tough time. More...

Counselling

It was a big step to see a counsellor, as it can be a scary thing to do however I am glad I finally decided to do so.
John has a excellent approach, and has been a great help. As the saying goes Rome was not built in a day, but he has already been a great help and for the first time in a long time I feel comfortable opening up and talking about things.
Great counsellor, and I would say give him a try. He will help you.

I have found John to be a highly professional source of support for my child. He is innovative in his approach and has given them the space and time to work through ideas and identify next steps. I can’t recommend him enough.

Q&As

To spend time with a client and to be allowed into their world for the purpose of helping him or her to improve some aspect of their life is both a huge privilege and a big responsibility. My whole working life has been spent trying to help people realise their potential and in so doing it has helped me grow as a person. My work has given me much satisfaction and is always a stimulating challenge. As a therapist I learn and grow with each person that I work with.

I retired from full time work as in education in 2016 and since then have done volunteer work for a local charity where I use my counselling skills. I also help with a charity based in Suffolk that offers arts based courses to young adults with special needs and emotional problems. What I have missed however is one to one work with people helping them to make changes in their life.

On a personal level I am told that I am easy to get on with and friendly. I am compassionate, calm and I have a good sense of humour. Professionally I understand the importance of confidentiality, improving my skills and knowledge and being a reliable, non-judgemental therapist. I will use a range of therapies that many other therapists cannot offer and I will always tailor my approach to fit the needs of my clients. For me therapy is not something “done” to clients. It is a partnership and a creative journey. I stick with my clients and I understand that I need to earn their trust and confidence. I have a lot of experience, particularly in support of younger people, and it is fantastic when I see people developing insights and then creating a better life for themselves. Most people have more internal resources that they realise and I see my role as helping people to tap into that and to discover, with my help, ways of overcoming the obstacles that are holding them back.

From March 2020, I started to conduct all my sessions remotely mainly using Skype video calling but I have also used FaceTime and even WhatsApp video calling depending on clients' preferences. This switch was necessitated by Covid restrictions but I have found that many clients now prefer remote therapy as it means they can avoid travel and feel comfortable in their own homes. The main negative with online is making sure that you have a private space for the sessions so that your confidentiality is assured. Face to face and walking therapy sessions can be arranged by negotiation.

With remote sessions there have not been any issues with Covid-19

Services

For simplicity I charge the same fee regardless of the approaches I use . This is £45 for a 50 minute session but I do offer the first session at a price of just £30.

For students and those on a low wage these fees may be negotiable. Also negotiable are extended hypnotherapy sessions due to prep time and walking therapy sessions due to travel.
