About

I share stories through film and photography.

My guiding ethos: If you have an idea, why not tell everyone you know about it?

Visual platforms like film and photography provide us with the perfect medium to bring a story to life. It’s something that I’ve always been passionate about, and I’ve been fortunate enough to help a lot of people share theirs.

Q&As

The secret to taking a great photography is capturing the “moment”. This moment may be an experience or a feeling. So what interests me the most is exploring the importance behind that moment.

When working with clients in the studio, I have found that it is the moment that they value most. As such, I believe it imperative to provide a memorable and enjoyable experience.

My first question is always: what do you want to say with your project? Whether it’s product photography, filming an event or creating an advert, you have a message to share.

Within this, we’ll talk about tone, style and what sort of qualities you are looking for.

Additionally, knowing how you want to present your story afterwards is just as important. I may ask you about the format or platform you’d wish to present on, so that it’s perfect for your needs.

Of course, I’ll also need to know when you’ll need the project completed by! After all, timing is everything.

Ultimately though, I’m here to help you. So, if you have any questions, I’d love to hear them.

I am a storyteller at heart so there is nothing more I love than sharing and hearing new ones! After all, who doesn’t love a good story?

As a result, this never-ending pursuit has provided me with the opportunity to meet new people and to share in their experiences.

Since then, my greatest joys in the field have come from the experiences that they have provided. I love to develop my skillset through experimentation and by collaborating with people.

It doesn’t matter what the project is, there’s a story there worth telling!

My passion for film was first ignited at the age of 12, following the conclusion of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. I was inspired by the epic scope of its story, but the technical process behind how they made the series is what sealed it for me.

Finding my interests aligned with a group of cohorts, I soon started to make short films and animations through my teenage years. I took this passion to Falmouth University thereafter, where I acquired a BA in Film.

A city boy at heart, I moved back to Bath after graduating. It was during this period that I started work for a social enterprise in Bristol. Here, I collaborated with local creatives to produce short films, as well as photographing events and artwork.

Inspired by meeting these like-minded people, I became a full-time, freelance filmmaker and photographer in the city. Now, I balance my time between commissioned work and my own creative projects.

The thing that I value the most is a good story. How someone chooses to tell it is important, which is why I’m strongly committed to telling it right. I’m all about taking the appropriate amount of time to considerately craft it, because otherwise, what’s the point?

With me, you’ll find a practical, thoughtful and resourceful collaborator. Backed by over 6 years of experience in the industry, I have developed a versatile skillset and genuine drive.

Services

A storyteller at heart, directing narrative is where I’m most at home. My love for the craft begun when I was 12, where I started out as an attic-animator. Since then, I have directed a number of films, which you can conveniently view on my Vimeo: https://vimeo.com/joealdous

I am available to work on commissions as a director, camera operator or video editor.

Photography is all about capturing a moment. So what interests me the most is exploring the story behind that moment. My background was in event and product photography, but I have extensive experience in studio. In fact, you'll most likely find me working in the studio when I'm not making films. I love working directly with clients to capture what they value. But of course, sometimes it’s nice to just do things for fun.

I am available to photograph events and workshops; portraits and products; and more!
