We spent a really enjoyable evening and night at the hotel after a days Christmas shopping in Birmingham.||The bar was busy, but the bar staff made us feel welcome, a nice touch was the tray of olives and snacks with our drinks. ||We didn't eat in the restaurant, we had our fill at the German market, however the breakfast was excellent, there seemed to be an endless supply of every breakfast item you could think of!||Room was very smart, looked like it was brand new or newly refurbished, the bed was huge and extremely comfortable. I didn't stay here but was lucky enough to be taken to this great place by some very dear friends to dine in the bistro which is located in a beautiful room. The place oozes 'old world '; the service was good and I could have happily chosen anything on the menu and that was maintained after seeing my friends and my daughter's choices. I had mussels to start and they were succulent in a most delicious white wine sauce. The only downside was that none of them had been properly cleaned, each still had a gritty beard. But I am adept at doing it myself. I love mussels and even when they have been picked over properly there are early always one or two that are missed. It was just unfortunate here that I don't think the kitchen had even tried, so if you are faint hearted choose something else. Next I had the mixed seafood risotto another delicious choice. ||I would definitely go again More...

We just experienced our fourth stay at this hotel and once again came away feeling really happy with our choice as everything exceeded our expectations (and that's difficult believe me! ). From the pleasant check-in experience, fantastic room, through to the amazing high-quality food our 1 night break just couldn't have been better. We booked a Sunday night deal with breakfast for two included. We also chose the evening dinner special - Chateaubriand for two with a bottle of Chateau Bauduc. Service was of a very high standard and the food simply amazing. We now travel to this hotel every December for Christmas shopping and to savour the Frankfurt Christmas Market. Parked in the Snow Hill car park just a short walk away which cost us about £30 for 36 hours. It also had free electric car charging - an added bonus. More...

A big thank you to: Colleen who was super helpful in planning and booking for our family lunch of 35 guests. Also to Jess and her serving staff who were very attentive and also the all important chefs and kitchen staff. The food was superb, particularly the market table. All the staff were efficient, friendly and attentive to our needs. We had a brilliant family lunch. The Belle Epoque room was fabulous, plenty of space, good decor and well laid out. Having the Atrium for pre/post drinks was a bonus :-) The toilets were pleasant, clean and well maintained. I think this merits a mention, it’s a particular bug bear of mine at restaurants. ||The occasion was a family get together to mark our mothers birthday who died 2 yrs ago, it’s a rare occasion when we can all manage to meet up.||Huge thanks to you all again for making it a memorable day for us. I stayed here with my partner for an impromptu night away. We stayed over based on a recommendation from a colleague using the Settle in Sundays promotion. The value for this promotion in itself was incredible (£30 for your room as long as you spend £75 in the bistro). ||||Its Easy enough to blast through that reserve with the upmarket menu, a wide range of wines and cocktails available but that's no bad thing.||||The food was exceptional (we shared the chateaux briand and a couple of starters) the service was warm and efficient and ||||I have to give a special mention to Luis, the bar manager and his staff who were incredibly accommodating all evening, very personable and extremely professional when presented with a rather challenging customer trying to upgrade her free drink token.||||Would definitely recommend the venue either for a short city break, or for business as the location is great for either and I'm sure I'll visit this location and likely the others in the chain again||||The only blight on the whole stay was the bottle bins being emptied at 6:30am, but it's a weekday and I'm sure the hotel had no choice in that. ||||Five Stars for sure. We stayed here on a friday night in a deluxe double room. We had dined here before and found the service to be excellent and full of really nice personal touches due to it being our wedding anniversary. Initial impression on this visit was lovely ambience in lobby area, however, reception desk is a little confined. Nevertheless staff were pleasant and offered help with luggage. Contrary to some other guest reviews we were given adequate instruction to locate our room. We were very impressed with the size and decor. The facilities are in keeping with the style of the property which was a Victorian hospital, so although others have commented this hotel looks dated, we would argue this entirely inaccurate. It was slightly difficult to control the room temperature due to the beautiful original radiators but once we have figured them out this was easily rectified. There is a slight noise from the corridor, however if you follow the instructions which the hotel have provided clearly to lock the door, this is resolved. There was some noise from the street outside, but this is to be expected on Friday night in a busy city centre location. It should be noted that there are excellent touches such as well stocked mini bar, several types of glasses, corkscrew, high end toiletries and modern coffee maker. Overall we would not hesitate to stay here again and feel it represents good value for money. Breakfast was excellent with a varied choice of good quality fresh produce. ||Having read through some of the other reviews for this hotel, we feel they are missing the point about the individuality of this property. We have stayed in a large number of other 4 star and 5 star hotels with reputable brands and they would struggle to compare favourably with regardes to quality and comfort. More...

The room was very well decorated and clean. Two small points, there was only 2 small containers of milk, should be at least 4 in the room we had to go and ask for some more milk and I found the bed wasn’t long enough as it was like a sleigh bed so I couldn’t stretch out and put my feet over the end of the mattress so I didn’t get a good night’s sleep and I’m only 5ft8inches tall!

We held a birthday lunch at the hotel, around 40 people in the Belle Epoque private room. Unlike a number of other places we had researched, the HduV did not charge for the hire of the room and there was no minimum spend which we thought was a good selling point. The contact with the hotel's representative (Colleen) beforehand was very efficient and friendly and we were taken care of on the day by Mia and Renai who were good natured in dealing with our numerous requests during a busy service. We began with a pre-lunch drink in the Courtyard and then moved through to the room which was set with 4 large round tables. The cash bar was moved through into the room so that our guests did not have to bother walking through the hotel to get to the bar. The food was lovely, especially the 'market table' which was made available to us in another of the private dining rooms so again, we didn't have to share with everyone else who was enjoying Sunday lunch in the hotel. While there were a few negative issues (e.g. vegetables didn't arrive in time for some of our guests to enjoy them with their main courses, the cash bar and room were not ready until the very last minute, etc.) they did not spoil our afternoon and the management responded appropriately to our concerns. Everyone seemed to enjoy the food and the atmosphere (it was the perfect sized room for 40 seated for dining) which at £28 for 4 courses seemed like good value. Overall we would use the HduV again for our private function. Many thanks to all the staff for making the event so enjoyable. More...

Private dining for my Mum’s 75th birthday. I live in London and not experienced on where to go for a good dining experience in Birmingham, but we struck lucky. The food here was excellent and very good portions. Loved the fish pie and sneaked a taste of my Mum’s beef dish....it was divine. I don’t usually have dessert but the sticky toffee pudding was better than The Ivy’s. I can see why it’s called Hotel du Vin as their wine list is very strong. The restaurant manager Val who came with a fabulous French accent and was extremely accommodating in helping us make the reservation. He lived up to our expectations and was complimented on his attire, very stylish, Fred from First Dates has some competition here :)) Val was very helpful and friendly and made us feel welcome. We were 18 people and I have to give a huge thanks to our waitress Charley who was outstanding. She was so polite, accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. I loved that she remembered that it was my Mum’s birthday and kept topping up her glass and making her feel special. I would definitely recommend this place. Good food, great wine and fabulous service. More...

This is a slightly quirky city-centre hotel in that its building was built as a hospital and it therefore has a slightly unusual but charming layout. Very good staff. Bedrooms are big, the beds very comfy. My only recommendation is that if you are a light sleeper it is best to avoid the 3rd floor rooms as some are VERY noisy. In the roof above, the hotel's extractors are wheezing away 24/7 and this meant I had a very bad night's sleep (I am a light sleeper). More...

Nice hotel, lovely staff, good location. I was in the Kendal room which was a standard double, although it was not huge it was big enough, modern and had nice touches - selection of refreshments and nice bathroom products. Only down side was I didn’t sleep well as I found the mattress far too soft. I ate in the bistro and the food was good and the staff were great.
