I must write a 2nd review as now I have completed 3 HotDog classes with my Golden Retriever 'Elma' - Puppy Foundations, Shape 'Em Up and Super Dog. Elma and I loved them all, Sue and Carol are fantastic teachers and just have a wonderful way with dogs and owners and I am delighted as Elma is now a pleasure to walk as a result of her training! We would love to come to Busy Dog and agility too for more stimulation and fun. More...

Rated highly for: Quality, ValueWe had tried other puppy classes locally and were starting to despair.. but the shape ‘em up course taught all the things we had tried before but in a new way that just clicked with our 6 month old. Very useful, we highly recommend.

Our miniature dachshund, Ralphie, took part in the Perfect Puppy course which gave us all the tools and knowledge to have a happy life together. Carol and Sue are clearly extremely experienced in how to get the best out of your dog and were so friendly and fun to visit every Saturday morning! My wife and I would highly recommend HotDog Training to anybody with a new puppy. Amazing big venue which is easy to find and park at in Holmer Green and we felt it was great for Ralphie to socialise with other dogs too. They've also been great at offering us advice post course too, and Ralphie loves his Perfect Fit harness!! More...

Once we'd worked out that we were the ones being trained, and not the dogs, it all worked swimmingly! Carol and Sue trained us with good humour and positivity throughout. The Perfect Puppy training has been really enjoyable and invaluable to helping us create a calm and happy household with our labrador puppy, Luna. We have already signed up to Shape 'Em Up. Really couldn't recommend Hot Dogs highly enough! More...

Me and puppy Elma loved every minute of Monday evening puppy classes, in fact I'm so sad they have come to an end now! The 6 classes were such fun and we worked through so many exercises each week with our puppies and then Sue and Carol gave us reminder notes after each class so we could practice all week at home. They gave lots of great tips and targets and are just such lovely ladies happy to give extra time and advice to everyone. I would love to go on to do more of their courses with Elma. Thank you More...

We have been delighted with all the training we have received both one-to-one and the shape em up class. Over the five weeks in the group class Minnie improved so much and did so well and it's all thanks to the fabulous trainers at Hot Dog Training. We are definitely going to do more training classes with Minnie as we have just enjoyed them so much. Both Sue and Carol are so knowledgable and guide you every step of the way. Any training need you have, whether it seems big or small, nothing is too much trouble for Sue and Carol. We can't thank them enough for making our time with our Minnie so much more enjoyable More...

I have now completed two puppy training courses with Sue and Carol, not because I have a badly behaved puppy, of course not, she’s perfect, but because I enjoyed them so much! My current puppy is my first small dog, I have always had large dogs before and so with a small dog I felt I needed a little more gentle approach to training... my first session was an absolute pleasure, you can actually hear yourself think, and hold a conversation, ask questions etc, the puppies were all calm and so were the humans! There was no shouting, I came home and didn’t have to collapse on the sofa with a headache, I still had my voice! I actually enjoyed it! I can not recommend Hot Dog Training enough... you’ll have fun, your dog will have fun, but you’ll also learn a lot, some of it obvious when you think about it, but stuff that you usually miss as everybody’s too busy shouting out commands! It’s a much gentler approach to training and I like it, I didn’t get stressed once and if you have a calm owner you’ll have a calm dog... and I’m not bragging (well maybe just a bit) but my 6 month old schnauzer (a breed that has no interest in retrieving) now retrieves a ball just as good as a spaniel! And doesn’t always have to have a cocktail sausage in return! Right, now just got to get show ready for Crufts next year.... More...

The lessons and techniques Sue has shown me have been invaluable ! She has given me the confidence to believe I am able to train my dog which is often half the 'battle' . After just one visit, where she showed patience and understanding when dealing with Bruno, my Golden Retriever, the improvement in his behaviour was truly impressive. Would highly recommend Sue & Hot Dog Training More...

Q&As

What drives me is helping owners and their dogs to live happily together. This begins with getting it right from day one with a puppy and continues through great training and building great communication between you and your dog.

The emotional life of dogs fascinates me. Most of the problems in dogs I am asked to work with stem from emotional, rather than 'training' issues, which is why imposing 'training' solutions on many of these dogs is not enough. I spend time getting to know owners and their dogs to work out what is right for them, and what they feel comfortable with.

Training becomes really effective when the dog, and the owner, feels calm, confident and motivated.

I'm also passionate about positive training - there are still trainers out there talking about 'dominance' and 'pack leadership' and 'putting your dog in its place'. What I love about my job is working with owners who have perhaps used those more old-fashioned methods in the past and seeing their enjoyment when they realise they can train with kindness (which is usually what they would rather do anyway) - and it works!

A big, noisy, over-crowded and chaotic puppy class! I walked out after one lesson thinking, 'I could do this better - a lot better'. I originally learned about training just for my puppy but got bitten by the bug, and fascinated by behavioural science methods.

Because my methods are based on scientific research, and my attitude is based on compassion - for you and your dog. I am fully qualified with the IMDT, which demands a rigorous two-day practical examination and regular reassessment and proof of continuous professional development. And our classes are fun!
