I concur, asking taxi drivers to 'fetch' is outrageous, its derogatory language and condescending, because it has servile implications Marilyn Hawkins, you really ought to know better. “Fetch” is a command, carrying in it an implicit power dynamic: those who issue the command are in control (Master-like); those who do the 'fetching' are subservient (Servant-like). Taxi drivers are not servants, nor you a Master (travelling Economy), in fact some are wealthier than you, better educated too it seems!! While the terms origins are in no way specific to dogs, in contemporary usage the image which is most often called to mind is that of a dog chasing a stick or a ball. To use the term in regard to a human's actions is to equate the power relationship between humans with that of a dog and its master. This is an example of the metaphorical association between dogs and low-status persons or servants. 'Fetching' is something that servants and slaves do (dogs included in these categories for metaphorical purposes) and the use of the word cannot be considered neutral and, depending upon context, can be profoundly offensive.I suspect you knew all that anyway, Right Hawkins..!!? But it's Christmas - 'tis the season of goodwill, peace, charity and prayer, in the example of Jesus to worship God. Not to get trolleyed and indulge in glut and vanities, or to post bitter misrepresentative reviews laden with expletives and porkies.In June we replied to your booking request with a 'Provisional' confirmation, as stated to be reconfirmed early December. Reliable and good value for money service.Saving us £60 on taxis to and back from Southampton this month. Charged us £55 each way compared to every other local taxi quoting atleast £170 round trip.
