Stayed here for my birthday last night and its a beautiful hotel, room was very spacious and bathroom with a Jacuzzi bath. We'd booked a meal and the food was stunning, best we've ever had to be honest. Breakfast was also amazing, lots of choice too. The only reasons why didn't give it 5 ☆ was within about 10 minutes of us getting to the room and unpacking a workman let himself into the room which could've been embarrassing and then had to come back again another 4 times to look at smoke alarm. And being on the ground floor we were kept awake by a pair of slamming doors from the bar area. We did point this out at reception on departure and this has been dealt with via email. We will definitely stay again as these are just small matters. More...

Matty on reception was very helpful and went above and beyond to sort it out. The rooms are huge, very spacious and very well decorated. The food was amazing and to a very high standard. I visited for the first time with my husband. The hotel was beautiful inside, lots of work and scaffolding on the outside, this did not spoil our stay. The room was beautiful, very clean as spacious. Only fault with the room was it was dark when the curtains were drawn. Again this did not spoil anything. Food in the restaurant in the evening and breakfast was outstanding. However the biggest positive for me was the staff. They were all so polite and friendly and everyone had smile for you. I will definitely be returning More...

Had our first stay at the hotel last night with my husband and friend and her husband as a treat for our birthdays. Rooms were stunning and the Jacuzzi bath was a luxurious touch. Food was outstanding and staff were very attentive.

Only criticism was that the 2-4-1 cocktails didn't start last night

For the package that we booked, it was definitely good value for money and can't wait to return

Had a Cream Tea at The Exchange Hotel today with my mother for an Easter Treat as I have wanted to come and see it for quite some time. Blown away with how stunning all the original features and history that pours out of the place, but also the scones were freshly home baked and phenomenal - plus you get two! And if you can’t manage them they offer to place them in a box to take away so not stuffy at all!
Paul looked after us very attentively and all the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. They also have a ramp for disabled people whom may struggle with all the steps at the entrance.
Will we be back? Hell yeah!!! In love with the place

We had our evening meal which tasted great and staff were attentive last night, even though only 2 on duty in resteraunt, and the drinks at bar including the exchange martini enjoyable. Would recommend and look forward to coming back when the new dinning room opens in June. Highly recommend a stay. More...

Beautiful hotel. Unfortunately quite a few things went wrong for us. The problems were sorted as soon as we mentioned them to reception. However I would not hesitate to pay another visit. Staff are extremely welcoming (especially Sam) and went above and beyond to rectify the issue. The food at the restaurant in the evening was lovely and the breakfast is amazing. This hotel is so close to being excellent I understand it is fairly new and needs a little tweaking and work is still going on air Con needs sorting etc. .. Me and the wife had an awesome stay here the jacuzzi bath in the room was real nice the breakfast was good and the service and staff were great... But my only big criticism is a deluxe room at nearly £200 should come with a bigger bed than a small double ... Please please put some bigger beds in your deluxe rooms as I'd love to stay here again... But it's the only thing that would put me off... Thank you More...

Fabulous hotel with lovely rooms. A relaxing jacuzzi bath with rainfall shower in the centre.
Each room has a story from the hotels previous use as the coal exchange. The coal exchange was where the first ever million pound deal was struck, in the days when a million pound property was a mansion.
The rooms are named after the offices of the companies and collieries that used to use the building. The grand Hall, which is spectacular, used to be the trading floor. You can see the wealth that used to frequent the building in its style that has been lovingly restored by the hotel and is currently a work in progress. However, don't hold it against them. What they are doing is nothing short of miraculous considering the council wanted to knock it down.
In the grand Hall is the hotel restaurant. The food is of a very high standard, the service is very friendly.
Breakfast is a standard cooked and continental which is nicely done. Fresh poached eggs done on request. I wish I knew how they were done cause I can never get them that good. All the juices, cereals, fruit and yogurts available. The hotel isn't far from the millennium centre and is perfect if you went to a show.
Lastly, there is currently no parking at the hotel but I believe this is because of refurbishment. There is a car park underneath which will open eventually but until then there is a multi storey on the other side of the millennium centre.

The building looks pretty incredible as you come around the corner from almost any direction. It's only real downside is that it is quite closed in by the buildings around it, this means not all the rooms afford a particularly good view of anything. The rooms are quite large and very nicely decorated, and I found the bed comfortable. The building makes good use of its history in its decoration. The staff were friendly and helpful, and I like that the front desk is staffed around the clock. More...

Some good and some not so good comments. Building work still in progress so early morning alarm was the builders talking outside, only a portable ramp for wheelchair user, room doors open/close the wrong way for wheelchairs, bathroom cold. On the positive side, close to the bay, staff were very helpful, food in the restaurant was fantastic. Maybe in the future they can look at making it easier for wheelchair users by taking out the little steps between the rooms,it's hard trying to hold the door open with one foot abs trying to tip the wheelchair backwards to get it up the step. It would also be great to have a accessible room with both a shower and bath. Having said all that it is work in progress and hopefully in time it becomes a 5*hotel More...

We stayed at the exchange for 2 nights as we had a few events to attend in cardiff. Me and my wife where both blown away by this venue. It's such a pretty place. It's hidden out of the way a short walk from Cardiff bay. Parking is a little annoying as there is only pay and display car park close by. We ended up leaving our car overnight in capitol for 18.00 on the second night. That did not seem worthy to reduce the score we have the hotel. The rooms are great everything you need and I would advise on getting breakfast booked it does not disappoint especially in the hall you have it. Trust me when you see it. The hotel had Christmas trees up as we went at the start of december. Would definitely come back again! More...

I needed to store a box in fridge/freezer for health reasons and Kate beforehand was amazingly helpful and went out of her way to help all of the staff at the hotel were so helpful and no matter what time of the day or night they would retrieve my box for me without any issues whatsoever.
