What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
I find the secret to be timing. A photographer's main job is to be observant of all the surroundings and find the best moment to capture. You can do amazing things in post-production but if you don't start with the right moment then you can't tell the exact story. And the moments you choose to capture set the tone from start to finish.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
How many guests will be attending? What kind of photos do you hope to see? I also love to know my clients - if I have an understanding of their personalities then I can use that to pick the moments that display these qualities. It's a great joy to capture someone in the moment being their honest self and I aim to do that on each photo shoot.
What do you love most about your job?
I've always loved taking pictures. I started taking detailed pictures of sand traps at a golf course, then looked at details on flowers, insects, dogs and moved on to people who let me use them as a model. It's amazing being able to meet new people and share in such an amazing moment in their lives (for weddings, anyway). It's also a great pleasure when someone sees a great photo of themselves and gets they are filled with confidence - sometimes a reminder of your uniqueness is a gentle reminder of how incredible you are.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I moved from the US to the UK to be with my wife. I always wanted to have a schedule I was in control of so I could spend more time with her after having a long-distance relationship for so long so I thought about the skills I could use. Photography was an easy choice, being a big passion in my life and something I can continuously learn in while letting my creativity flow.
Why should our clients choose you?
The reason I would want clients to choose me is my understanding of their personality. Anyone can take a picture, but to capture moments that truly express a person's unique qualities is more of art that pressing the shutter. To that point, I would like all my client's to know that if they do choose me, I will do what I can to make sure their photos express their qualities, as well as show a clean and professional photo that they can enjoy for years to come.
