It was amazing. The scenery is just stunning and there is undamaged land for miles around with nothing cluttering your view of the gorgeous countryside. At the farm there are plenty of facilities for use and we were able to cheekily get a quad bike tour of the Farmers land after some smooth persuading. My brain was pretty mush by the end of the quad trip but we saw some amazing places. I fully recommend staying here for a week or even more with friends or family and hope I can go again sometime. We travelled down from Glasgow to celebrate a friends birthday and all I can say is, it was definitely worth the long drive! What a beautiful setting and David is the most wonderful host. We arrived and he was there to greet us and show us around. The Barn is very open plan, with plenty of space and 3 bathrooms. We never felt crammed. There was a large kitchen and a lovely warm fire, particularly well used given the poor Bank holiday weather. We enjoyed lots of lovely long walks around the beautiful countryside, as well as visits to the local pub and the beach at Burton Bradstock. I just wish it wasn't such a far drive from Glasgow as it was one of the best weekends we've had. I couldn't recommend it highly enough. Thank you David, your farm is just wonderful. More...

We were made very welcome by David and his family and the cottage was decorated for us with a christmas tree and holly. The Cottage was beautifully situated in the rolling fields of the farm and there were plenty of walks which kept our 3 dogs happy. We had all we needed for 8 adults to stay comfortably and managed to cook a full christmas meal in the kitchen. The beds were comfortable, the showers warm and the log basket fully topped up for the fire. There was plenty of parking for our 4 cars and we’d recommend visiting Bridport and West Bay, only 20 minutes away by car. The local pub (The Spyway Inn) is about a 10 minute drive and was very welcoming and we’d recommend a meal there. David and his family made sure we had all we needed and some of our party joined in as beaters with a shoot on the farm on our first day. I’d recommend Fern Down Farm to anyone for a fantastic break in West Dorset. More...

We've just spent a wonderful long weekend at Fern Down Farm. There were 8 of us (6 Adults 2 Children) and there was plenty of space for us all in the cottage. David is a lovely bloke with lots of knowledge about the farm and surrounding areas. It was such a welcoming atmosphere - the girls loved feeding the pigs, the trailer ride around the fields and collecting freshly laid eggs. It was great to be in such a remote place surrounded by beautiful trees and fields and feel so safe. Amazing sunsets from the front garden too. We will definitely go back :-) More...

We had a wonderful stay at The Cottage over Christmas this year. There was plenty of room for 8 adults and 3 dogs and all we needed to cook a full Christmas dinner. The farm is in the most beautiful location, with rolling hills and plenty of walks right from the doorstep. We were made incredibly welcome and there was a christmas tree and holly decorations set out for us. We were invited to join in as beaters in a shoot on the farm which we thoroughly enjoyed. The accommodation is clean and comfortable and there was plenty of logs available to keep the fire going all week. We couldn’t recommend Fern Down Farm or David and his family more for a stay and we will certainly be going back soon. More...

A very warm welcome from David, including a locally produced apple cake! Accommodation was spacious and very comfortable. We were a party of 10 - 3 couples, 2 adults, a young child and a toddler, and we had plenty of room . There are three en suite bathrooms, including a bath in one, and disabled access for another, so always one available. A lovely log burner in the main living area which warmed the whole barn up, plenty of logs just by the front door, and more if we needed them. Well stocked kitchen with lots of little touches that made it home from home. We really didn't need to remember to bring anything except ourselves, food and drink. ||The area is beautiful, well away from roads, noise, other houses and is a self contained working farm with lots of activities for young children to join in with. We had a lovely tractor ride around the whole farm, accompanied by the tireless collie Widget, and three springers; a brief 'one man and his dog' demonstration. We also had the opportunity to bottle feed the lambs. Resident pig Trinnie eats all the scraps of waste food you can generate and was completely child friendly, grunting to us every time we visited her and enjoying a stroke. ||We had free range of the whole farm, plenty of really lovely walks right on the doorstep. Lots of little villages and hamlets within walking/driving distance and some quality pub restaurants close by. We went to The Crown in Uploders and the food was very good, as was the service. The coast at Bridport is just 20 mins away, as is the town of Dorchester.||Would thoroughly recommend as a venue for a family to holiday, in a stress free safe environment. Would definitely return. Thanks David for making it so entertaining and for your warm welcome. More...

Just back from 5 days at The Barn on Fern Down farm. Hard to know where to begin in explaining what a great time I had. The Farm and it's barn are tucked away down a track, about a mile off a tiny Dorset road, so seclusion and peace and quiet are guaranteed. David the host could not have been more helpful in ensuring our stay was as perfect as it was. As well as showing me around his collection of rather rare and unusual "projects" of mostly cars, he took the family out for a tour of his farm in a trailer. It is clear he is passionate about what he is doing with natural farming techniques and is so happy to share his knowledge. Having his dogs run alongside as we went, and the sheepdog demonstration of rounding the herd up was excellent. The tour is definitely a highlight if you get the chance. ||The Barn has been well converted, is much in keeping with the surroundings, is a huge open plan space, comfortable and well equipped. I was there with a large extended family and we had plenty of sleeping space as well as never feeling on top of each other. Comfortable beds meant we slept well after long days out and about. ||Dorchester is about 25 mins down the road, Bridport (with large supermarket) is about 20 mins away and Charmouth with it's fossils and Lyme Regis with its quaintness are about another 15 mins. There are local pubs that serve excellent food all about 10 to 15 mins away in the car if you decide not to cook. Plenty of walks across the many footpaths that cross Fern Down Farm too. Lots of wildlife in and around the farm if you want to look for it - a myriad of birds, some badgers, sheep, horses and of course Trinny the pet pig.||One tip I would offer - don't bother to bring provisions and don't go out to buy them to start with: both Tesco and Waitress deliver to the Barn (though the driver may need some final directions)||Overall this was a fantastic place to stay and I know I will be back again.
