Run us through the different stages in the loft conversion process - what’s involved?
Our process takes you from an idea through to the build smoothly and efficiently. With effective communication at its core, the 5 stages are expanded upon below.
Stage 1 - Home Consultation
Home consultation
The first step is to meet at your property and discuss your thoughts and ideas.
You can explain your vision of your future house extension, loft conversion or new build. Based on this vision, we can then advise on what is possible and discuss any ideas we may have.
Once instructed, we complete a full laser survey of the property to obtain precise measurements and exact dimensions.
ARRANGE A HOME CONSULTATION
Stage 2 - Design
Design
We now have all the information required to begin the design phase.
Using computer design software, we produce draft drawings for your house extension or loft conversion based on our discussions and measurements.
These drawings allow you to envisage the space and form that will be created.
ARRANGE A SURVEY
Stage 3 - Design Approval
Design approval
Our second visit provides a digital presentation of your schemes.
Your new house extension or loft conversion can now be seen to scale in the form of digital plans and sections.

Stage 4 - Planning Application
Planning application or permitted development?
Your chosen design will determine which local authority process you need to follow. We then assist you with:
• Planning permission applications – which offer the most design flexibility
• Neighbourhood consultations – for large extensions that don’t require planning permission
• Permitted development – for small, simple developments that adhere to certain restrictions
We’ll produce and submit suitable drawings and documentation so that they meet local authority requirements for planning application submissions, monitor the application process throughout the 6-8 week decision period to ensure that things run smoothly.
It’s rare for an application to be completely unsuccessful. More often, the council will request design modifications, which we’ll discuss with you.
On approving the scheme, we then finalise the drawings so that they meet local authority requirements for planning application submissions.
We will submit the relevant plans to the relevant authorities on your behalf and track your applications process throughout the 6-8 week decision period to ensure that things run smoothly.
Stage 5 – Technical Specification & Builders
Technical specification and builders
After gaining planning approval, we then incorporate all of the required technical information into the drawings that are required by the builder and for building control approval.
We can recommend good local builders we have used in the past and get quotes from them.
