I've been a student for a year now and really enjoy my lessons, they're really fun. I'm playing music that I really enjoy. Andrew my teacher is extremely knowledgeable about music and has an excellent way of passing it on in person and with help via the internet & e-mail with helpful mp3 attachments which make practicing much easier. I'm 42 yrs old and would tell anyone that it's never too late to start ! you'll love it. Many thanks, Sergio More...

Learning an instrument is an exciting and challenging opportunity. Dawson’s Yamaha Music School (YMS) in Altrincham is an excellent place to do just this. After receiving a letter about lessons here as an infant’s school pupil back in 1997, I went along for my first free taster lesson in a group of around 8 people. This was good fun and my first tune, based around Andrew’s rather captivating story of an elephant playing tug of war, has not been forgotten! It certainly hooked me! I continued to take keyboard lessons at the school for a further 12 years supplementing them with piano lessons during the latter 6. The lessons were thoroughly enjoyable and typically involved a mixture of technical exercises (scales, finger joggings), improvisation and learning pieces from a variety of genres. I particularly enjoyed playing the group band pieces. Unfortunately, after 12 years, university commitments meant I could no longer continue my lessons at YMS. However, I kept in touch with Andrew throughout my undergraduate years and I continued to play in the holidays. After graduating in June 2013, I took the opportunity to revisit YMS and have some more lessons: my Saturday routine finally restored! Visiting YMS several years later was just as wonderful as I remembered from my childhood. I hope that many others are able to share the enjoyment and satisfaction that I do. More...

I studied here from when I was a child up until I started my Music Degree at University, and owe my musical progression to the school. Andy was an incredible teacher and taught me many valuable lessons which I will use for the rest of my career.
Being part of group classes was an excellent experience as I learned to interact with other performers at an early age, which I feel is an invaluable asset. Multiple concerts each year also gained my, (and many other students), confidence as a live performer.
I have fantastic memories learning here, and fully recommend it to anyone wanting to take up the piano/keyboard!

My son Elliot joined the school in May 2017 and is loving his lessons with Andrew. Andrew has made a massive impact on how Elliot plays the piano. Elliot was so happy to be asked to play in the concert today and loved every minute he played with Andrew. I am very happy with the improvement Elliot has made over the last few months More...

I first started learning at Altrincham Music School when I was in primary school and continued right up until I left Manchester to go to University, even now after completing my degree nearly 15 years later I still have brilliant memories of Andy's lessons, and cannot thank him enough for the amount of joy that piano has brought me over the years! I still play piano almost every day, and gig with a function band regularly, none of which would have been possible without DMS Altrincham.

I'd thoroughly recommend the school to anyone of any ability looking to begin or further their skills, the methods of teaching really made learning piano fun as well as teaching interaction with other musicians in group from an early stage!

All the best to Andy, Karen and the rest of the school!

Have been using the shop for years and have ALWAYS found staff friendly and helpfull. Bought a fantastic guitar from them earlier in the year and they were easy going, gave me all the advice i wanted and the time to choose the right instrument for me.

Just phoned them now and have again been given great advice. Recommend you support your local instrument shop - Altrincham is lucky to have such a shop.

Thanks for all your help. Mark
