About

I've worked as a DJ since the early 90s and have worked in music, entertainment and theatre ever since.

In terms of what I do as a DJ, the short answer is 'whatever you want me to do'! It's kind of odd but with a lot of DJs out there that is actually really unusual - I'm sure we've all been at events, whatever they might be - functions, Weddings and parties - where the DJ seems to be a law unto themselves, plays whatever they like and pays no mind whatsoever to what the client or the guests actually want!

Dave was the DJ for our wedding last year and was amazing. He played everything we wanted and we have had feedback that it was the best music at a wedding from our guests. Would recommend him to anyone for any event. He knows his music and is passionate about it. More...

Absolutely Fab DJ, couldn't recommend enough. I work for a venue where Dave has been plenty of times and its brilliant to find a DJ that doesn't think its their own party and actually cares what music you want to hear! 10/10 :)

I put on cabaret events and need a DJ that can not only fill the dance floor at the end of the night, but also handle the complicated tech support for the eclectic entertainers and variety artists we promote. Dave is my go to guy - a fab DJ and an unflappable stage manager. More...

Book this guy and the dancefloor will be full all night! He puts a lot of time and effort into to getting to know what clients want, and is just brilliant at what he does. A good DJ really makes an event, and quite simply, Dave Glenister is the best! More...

Dave ran a music quiz at my pub for a number of years and he did a great job. Running a decent pub quiz is a tricky thing to do but Dave managed it week in and week out, his music knowledge and collection are both extensive. I would highly recommend Dave for any music related event! More...

Dave did a fantastic job of DJing for my cousin's wedding. He listened to what they wanted, played a good variety of music within their tastes, kept everyone dancing, no stupid wedding party music, just good stuff that they would like. Which was a relief since I'd recommended him! Dave's music knowledge is limitless, he's a right proper DJ. Would deffo recommend him to any other cousins who are getting married, or birthdaying or whatevs. More...

Dave was the DJ for our wedding in 2014 and was brilliant. He created a fabulous atmosphere, everyone was dancing and he gauged the audience & mood perfectly to keep the dance floor full. It was exactly what we wanted.
He will be our first call for our next party

Dave deejayed at my 50th. Excellent service, very knowledgeable about music so he's much smarter than your average DJ.

Dave Glenister works so hard for and with his clients to make sure their event is the best possible. I have attended a few events where he has been DJ and everyone has a great time partying to tunes they enjoy due to hus homework before the event.

Q&As

Most important thing of all is to do your homework - talk and listen to your clients when they're booking you - they know their likes and dislikes and they've known their guests, friends and family a lot longer than you so will know what they like too! Every party is and should be unique and special and the music is a massive part of that.

Also keep an eye on people - not just the dancefloor but the bar, outside, other rooms etc as well - this will give you great clues as to what people are liking and doing, what's working, what's not.

It sounds really obvious but - TAKE REQUESTS! Some DJs seem to ignore them and go with their own 'standard' playlists, fatal! As well as the relationship you've built with the clients you only have a short time to build a rapport with everyone else so make the most of the opportunity.

I guess I do tend to focus on the music without too much talking except where it's essential. Clients and guests generally tell me they prefer this approach as a lot of people tend to find a lot of chatter distracting and even irritating. I firmly believe that the tunes should be front and centre, to that end I use the best quality sound equipment and carry a vast selection to choose from.

I've always loved music from an early age, it triggers so many awesome memories and feelings. The thing I love most is helping people to bring out their own love of music and what's special to them and their guests. It makes the event for them and means that every day in the 'DJ office' is completely different to the last - every day or night is unique!

I tend to get most of my DJ work by word of mouth - either friends, venues or previous clients pass on my details. Often by by the time we get to have a chat, other people have done the hard work for me! I love that first chat with a client - whether it's a bride and groom, someone planning a special party or someone organising a corporate function - it's great when people realise that they're talking to someone who genuinely loves music and is drawing out their love of music too to make the party uniquely 'theirs' for the night.

Whoever you choose to provide the music at your party, do try and have a good chat with them and make sure you click and can be completely confident that they'll do exactly what you want on the night.
