We recently moved over to Connexus Consultants & Co and the difference in service is night and day from our previous provider. Extremely responsive and proactive when it comes to getting our Bookkeeping, VAT returns, payroll sorted etc. We've also been given great advice on some areas where we may have been doing it wrong in the past or just not 100% sure. It's comforting to know that one of the Smooth team is only a phone call away for when we need to clarify anything, no matter how daft the question maybe! 🙂 More...

A lack of time and administrative support can often lead to the maintenance of financial records being given a very low, or even no priority. Many of our clients, especially those that are self employed, recognise that it is more productive for someone else to complete this task, allowing them to focus on the activities that generate income for themselves. We therefore offer clients a full bookkeeping service whereby we manage their financial affairs and provide advice, from receiving invoices and expenses to compiling records and accounts. With penalties and fines now being levied by HM Revenue & Customs for poor record keeping, let alone late filing of returns, our bookkeeping service helps to ease the burden and provide peace of mind.

Administering your payroll can be time consuming and burdensome, diverting energy and resources from the core activities of your business. And the task is made all the more difficult by the growing complexity of taxation and employment legislation, and the accompanying regime of penalties for non-compliance.

Value Added Tax (VAT) is one of the most complex and onerous tax regimes imposed on business - so complex that many businesses inadvertently overpay or underpay VAT. Ever changing regulations and the growing demands of HM Revenue & Customs mean VAT compliance can be a difficult administrative process. We can help to ensure that you comply with the regulations and that over-payments are not made.

What is Making Tax Digital?
Making Tax Digital (MTD) is part of HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) wider digital strategy to make it easier for individuals, businesses and other organisations to ensure their tax affairs are in order. The driving force behind MTD is the belief within HMRC that taxpayer errors result in a significant proportion of the tax gap, the difference between the tax paid and tax due, and that poor record keeping is a major contributing factor to these errors. MTD will therefore require businesses, other organisations and individuals to keep their records digitally, using either bookkeeping/accounting software or at the very least on spreadsheets. By doing so, HMRC believe that errors will be reduced and, with them, the tax gap.
