Took my elderly parents here for morning coffee. Loved the setting and service was good. Disappointed though that they had nothing to serve with the coffee - no mince pies or homemade biscuits, or maybe even cake (it was elevenses! ). I love history so its historical background appealed to me and decor inside was good. Loved the Christmas decorations! Would like to come back to try dinner here and the spa. More...

After a very long trip our plane arrived late, we couldn't catch the train and the taxi got stuck in the traffic. We finally arrived at the hotel in the middle of the night and we were welcomed by a beautiful Christmas tree and a lovely atmosphere. The guy who works in the night , Andrea, opened the doors for us immediately and made us feel like at home with his smile and professionalism. He did the check in and carried the luggage in our rooms. The bar was closed but he opened it for us and that made us feel very special and cared for especially thanks to the fire Andrea lighted for us. He prepared two amazing drinks, a cuba libre for me and a gin tonic with the local gin for my partner. Is was nice to enjoy our drinks in front of the fireplace. We had interesting conversations with Andrea, he knows a lot about art and history. He made our day. The spa is fantastic, a little paradise on earth. The breakfast was one of the best I had. The only problem was that the door of the bathroom did not close but Andrea fixed it immediately. We were impressed by how many things Andrea can do. I'll surely come back to this hotel, it has a green policy and it's very clean. I felt like a little kid again in that fantastic Christmas atmosphere. More...

A very generous person had treated me and my husband to this relaxing spa weekend at the beautiful, ancient Boringdon Hall. I am normally more of a rucksack and tent kind of person and positively a bit scared of luxury. But everything at Boringdon felt so easy and relaxed, I actually really loved it! Our dinner at the Gallery restaurant was the best I have ever eaten, and I shall dream of the dessert for years to come. Our room was so spacious and quiet (I love sleeping with the window open, and there were no traffic noises) and the bed spacious and comfortable. The coffee was exceptional and the biscuits homemade and buttery. All the toiletries from the in-house Gaia spa, luxurious and divine smelling. We also enjoyed the use of gym, swimming pool and various fun treatments. The staff were extremely friendly and the service impeccable. And I even got my dose of outdoors, as the lovely Plym trail is just down the road with miles of forested cycling, walking, running and wild swimming opportunities, and the beautiful Membury beach nearby provided a romantic sunset to end our perfect stay. But I would have happily stayed forever. More...

I have just returned from a 1 night stay with my parter. I can honestly say, this is just the most perfect little getaway destination ever. The building is so traditional and the bedrooms are modern, clean, spacious and just lovely. The Facial treatments were exceptional and the spa facilities were stunning. So relaxed. We had a 5 course dinner in the Galley restaurant and really loved it. We especially loved the Portuguese man who served us, he was just the friendliest and funniest guy ever. So thank you so much to him for making our evening fantastic. Everything at this hotel is just great value for money and I WISH I could have stayed longer More...

Stayed here for our wedding anniversary and it was absolutely beautiful!||||Spa||We had a spa day with an hours long couples massage which was amazing! The therapists were incredible. The spa itself is lovely and clean, the dressing rooms are lovely there’s plenty of hair dryers and straighteners and branded cleansers to use while getting ready. The afternoon tea in the spa was delicious. A great selection and a lovely relaxed environment . ||||Hotel ||We then went across to the hotel which is absolutely stunning. We were left waiting in reception a little while longer than you would normally expect but there was only one girl checking people in and took everyone to their rooms individually which was what took the time. The room was absolutely stunning! Beautiful big 4 poster bed and free standing bath in the corner. ||We had dinner in the restaurant which was okay, nothing to really blow you away and service was quite slow considering it wasn’t overly busy. Breakfast was nice but again service let it down slightly, toast and tea arrived a while after the breakfast and toast was stone cold and rock hard. ||When we checked out we were given a little bag with a bottle of water and come macaroons which was a lovely touch! ||||On the whole the hotel is absolutely beautiful and the spa and the afternoon tea was incredible I do think it was just let down slightly by the food and the service in the main hotel it just wasn’t up to the standard you would expect from such a luxurious hotel but this may have just been a one off and it would not stop me from returning. This was our third visit to this hotel. Really lovely place, lovely rooms (apart from the slug in the bath and the mushrooms growing out the windows - not really sure how that would have missed by the housekeeping staff! ), however, on this occasion had real difficulty booking. Was trying to combine a spa break deal with a murder mystery evening and website showed that they had loads of rooms available when booking for 2 people but when trying to book for 4 people they had no availability whatsoever! Tried communicating by email but not very responsive so ended up phoning. Booked over phone relatively problem free but said that I would let them know nearer the time which treatments we would require. Emailed them with this a week before but received no confirmation so phoned to confirm 2 days before stay and apparently all was well but then when we get there treatments booked were wrong, times were wrong and the treatment rooms were wrong! I did, however, mention all this whilst there and we were given a bottle of champagne to compensate which was a nice touch even though its not our drink or choice. Also, the fire alarm went off at 7am which I assume was a mistake as it was turned off almost immediately but there was no mention or apology for this when checking out.||||Having said all of the above I would definitely go again as it really is a beautiful hotel with so much character and probably the best spa facilities I have ever experienced. This is our third trip to this hotel. It’s a real treat for us. 5 star at its finest. The grounds are peaceful and relaxing, especially with stormy weather outside. Feels like home-from-home. On this occasion, I want to thank 3 special members of staff. 1. Marc. On arriving I was mortified to see I’d forgotten my swimwear. Marc was so efficient and kind, he had a rummage through lost property and found me a selection to chose from. I cannot thank him enough. A true professional. 2. Marco. I was lucky enough to meet the new food and beverage manager. Tall, dark and handsome. He went out of his way to find us a table for dinner when we’d forgotten to book. He has ample experience of working in fine establishments across the UK. Boringdon is very lucky to have him. 3. Emma. We took part in 2 of Emma’s yoga classes. She is non judgmental and very sweet. Another great asset to Boringdon. A great way to try out a new fitness class I you havent done it before. More...

Overall this was a very good trip, we booked the Winter Warmer 2 night break. The check in experience was very relaxed and informal (perfect for this sort of trip). The room (Four Poster) was beautiful and very spacious. We had some issues on the first night in the Brasserie, we were half an hour late being seated (booked for 8.45 seated at 9.15), it then took over an hour to get our main course (we ate at 10.30pm) - this was not the experience we expected. We made a complaint the following day and spoke to the manager, he was very apologetic stating this is not the "Boringdon way" and requested we give the hotel a chance to redeem itself, he offered my wife and I a 5 course tasting experience in the Gallery restaurant for free. We accepted this offer (we were not planning to eat at the hotel that night) and I have to say the rest of the trip was fantastic, the afternoon tea was very nice, the spa and treatments were very good too. I would strongly recommend the food in the Gallery restaurant - the tasting menu was as good as I have experienced anywhere. I am glad we made the effort to highlight the issues we experienced straight away and in turn gave Boringdon a chance to redeem itself, I can only put the issues we had down to one of those nights!
