Be More Moxie - Primary Tutor

About

After 30 years as a primary school teacher, I decided to become a private tutor working with individual children. I have set up Be More Moxie, Worcestershire with the philosophy that I want to provide children with the confidence to tackle the obstacles they will come across in their school life.

I started my career in London where I led Science in my school and then specialised in teaching SEN children in small groups in schools with disadvantaged children. After ten years, I moved to Worcestershire where I taught at RGSW The Grange for 13 years and in that time was Head of English and RE and PHSE. I taught in Birmingham for two years where I became Maths lead across two schools. Then I moved to Pershore, Worcestershire and taught Reception for three years. In my final two years, I taught Year 6 and lead Maths and Science across the school. I now tutor full-time.

My approach to teaching is much more holistic and I aim to ensure the child feels happy and safe in their learning environment to ask questions and learn from mistakes. I believe that success is all about a belief and confidence within the child. Each child is unique and I develop their bespoke programme of learning to progress the child to confidently master ideas they initially find tricky. I plan fun, engaging and pacy lessons.

Moxie means Energy, Determination, Know-how, Courage & Pep which I feel are essential characteristics to progress in today’s world.
I aim to make my lessons interesting, pacy, fun and engaging. Each lesson will inform gaps, misconceptions or skills that need to be explored in the next lesson so the lessons are organic but within the defined objectives within their year group or appropriate to their understanding. Therefore the lessons are individually planned for each child; giving the child a sense of achievement.
