I supplied all details for the characters I wanted depicted in my illustrations including some photos and of course the manuscript of my stories.
Sam immediately was able to grasp the scenes required. I got him to complete an illustration of my main character and this confirmed that Sam Batley would be my illustrator! We then made an agreement.

He worked in a very tight time frame, provided a free sample illustration, and was very flexible throughout the design stage. What inspired you to start your own business?
I've been a freelance illustrator for over 20 years, whilst studying for my degrees in Illustration and Animation, and alongside being a Primary school teacher and a father to 4 boys,—which gives me a unique insight and a deep understanding of children's book illustration.
Nowadays, I'm a dedicated, in demand, full-time illustrator.
