Dan cooked a delicious meal for a joint 60th Birthday Party for 11 of us. He created a creative menu, using fantastic local produce. He took account of people’s dietary needs and likes/dislikes. Dan’s standard of cooking was superb - the meal of 6 courses ran like clockwork with perfect timing. He was friendly and passionate about his food whilst giving guests space to chat and eat. Apologies for this long overdue review. A couple of weeks ago Dan cooked an outstanding dinner for 9 family members. The process of choosing a menu for this number taking in to account everyone’s likes/dislikes couldn’t have been made any easier by Dan. He came back to me with a spectacular sounding menu including canapés, an amuse bouche, starter, gin fizz sorbet, main, dessert and petit four together with homemade bread. It was course after course of deliciousness. We were all so impressed with Dans food and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of being cooked for in the comfort of our home surroundings. The other thing to mention is that Dan is a lovely person and totally considerate of being in your home. The added bonus is that he probably left the kitchen cleaner than he found it. When he had left we all joked about whether it had actually happened, you wouldn’t have known he’d been apart from the happy memory of amazing food! Absolutely fantastic afternoon tea to celebrate my brother and sister in laws silver wedding anniversary, I have had lots of afternoon teas but Dan's was by far the best, brilliant selection of savoury and sweet treats, all freshly made and taste delicious, would highly recommend for anyone wanting catering for a special occasion.

Amazing amazing amazing amazing! Attended a dinner party and the food was out of this world! From the starter to the desert I didn’t leave a single bit on my plate - I couldn’t it was so delicious! My particular highlight was the salt aged fillet steak - oh my goodness it was melt in the mouth deliciousness. I would’ve quite happily had 4 or 5 of the gin and tonic palet cleansers!!! To finish the amazing dinner party we were served passion fruit and white chocolate soufflé - mouth watering amazingness!! We had Dan cook for our works early Christmas party last night & what an excellent night it was! We opted for a buffet style with little portions of the menu (we are all so indecisive to pick one meal each! ) we have genuinely never tasted food as beautiful, it was well presented & he worked with such professionalism answering all questions asked and kindly declining the numerous wedding proposals! Dan came to cook for a party of 21 for our joint stag & hen weekend, and I couldn't be happier that we booked him! The whole process was excellent: he was quick to get back to us and made it all very easy to organise. We sent him a short brief, describing some of our likes and dislikes, and he came straight back with the perfect menu! The food absolutely lived up to expectations - it was all delicious, and the feedback we have had from our guests has been great. What’s your signature dish?
This is a tough one to answer as I love to cook most dishes, however 'At the Dinner Party's' most popular dish has been the Apple Tart Tatin, salted caramel, calvados crème fraiche for dessert.
Many of my lamb dishes have also become very popular.
How do you go about creating the perfect menu for your clients?
I listen carefully to the clients brief, what they like or dislike, the size of the event, the budget they'd like to stick to. I then take all of this information and write a bespoke menu for the client which reflects their brief and the seasonal aspect of the food. So far I have nailed the menus on first attempt about 95% of the time, the rest of the time I have just had to tweak a couple of bits.
What do you love most about your job?
Setting up 'At the Dinner Party' has given me the opportunity to carry on doing what I love which is cooking beautiful food, but I can now do this without all of the politics that is associated with working in a hotel or restaurant.
I am loving getting out all over Yorkshire and seeing so many stunning homes and holiday cottages, and meeting some lovely people and being a part of their event.
What inspired you to start your own business?
After more than 16 years working as a full time chef in hotels and restaurants, I decided I wanted to do something for myself, I wanted to be able to make the decisions I wanted, and not be dictated to by owners and managers.
Since setting up 'At the Dinner Party' I haven't looked back and have never been happier.
