Adrian has been working for me on plans for modernising and extending a small terraced house in an area of conservation.
His imaginative plans and flexibility to give me often more than one option have transformed the house into a light, pleasing and very useable new space.
Adrian's skill in managing the mysteries of the planning requirements has made the whole project run smoothly for me and working along side him on translating my ideas has been inspirational - making me aware I would use his services again in the future.

I wanted to install an air source heat pump in the front of my house. Because I live in a conservation area it required planning permission. Adrian not only drew up the plans and drawings but helped me submit the application. I would never have been able to obtain permission without his help and advice. More...

I wanted to understand what was possible to extend my end of terrace in a conservation area house and also how to improve use of space and optimise storage. Adrian was very mindfull of my preferences and what priorities I had. He came up with different innovative options to discuss. I am very satisfied with the service. More...

We chose Adrian as our architect on our loft project because he came across very professional with a wealth of knowledge and a delicate and sympathetic approach to design in our area. From the moment Adrian started the project we felt we were in good hands. After a couple of kitchen table talks, his ideas and designs brought to life exactly what we envisaged and was able to get us the result we wanted with our submission due to his close relationship with the local planning authority. Would highly recommend Adrian, he is fantastic. More...

We were looking to extend our 60s terrace to gain two work from home spaces as well as create a new kitchen/dining area. Adrian created a fantastic design which will transform our ordinary kitchen and current dining space into a new bathroom, second reception room with one work area and new open plan kitchen/dining room with an additional office. It was unthinkable that this is how the space we have could be reimagined, so thank you Adrian for the creativity... build starting soon! More...

Adrian has done a truly exceptional job in transforming our plain loft into a home office and bedroom. His design was smart and professional, making clever use of the space that we had available in a way that you would never be able to get without a custom design. It's very elegant and fits the theme of the loft. He even managed to create a secret cupboard for us hidden behind a bookshelf! The work was done during the lockdown period, and although it was delayed due to the pandemic, Adrian has gone above and beyond in chasing things and keeping us up to date. We are very, very pleased with both the designs and execution carried out by Adrian. More...

We contacted Adrian because we had greatly admired his thoughtful and creative approach to finding solutions to problems and his expertise at making ingenious use of small spaces.

My parents are in their 80s and have a small semi-detached house that has no downstairs bathroom and no space within the existing building to create one. With my father’s mobility declining, we were keen to see if it would be possible to extend their house in order to create not only a downstairs toilet and shower room but also additional living space, all with full disabled access, should it become necessary for them to live on one floor.

We were extremely grateful to Adrian for the sensitive way in which he approached the project, his careful questioning to identify our key requirements and the scope of our ideas, and his empathy and instinctive understanding of my parents’ needs.

As we had hoped, he came up with an excellent and exciting solution that makes optimum use of the small space available to the side and back of the house. Thanks to his skill, imagination and creative flair, the designs he created for the extension are also carefully planned so that the extension can be used flexibly, depending on my parents’ changing needs and circumstances. Crucially, his designs also provide disabled access into the house and back garden and throughout the ground floor.

Adrian has been extremely thorough, helpful and throughout the planning application process. We are delighted that the plans have been approved without any changes.

12 June 2019

I first met Adrian in 2010 and I was looking forward to his Venice exhibition at Palazzo Cavalli - Franchetti in September 2014, with his panoramic views of the city.
After visiting the exhibition I met him a second time to get to know his world and to know each other better: in the past I had asked him for artistic and architectural advice, inviting him to my office, not far away at the Fondazione Levi.

The foundation lets out the spaces overlooking the Grand Canal to be able to survive financially and had been left without "spaces" for its own offices.
Inspecting the different areas, he saw a corner, two metres by five full of shelves of files and archives, a tiny space with a huge window that occupied a quarter of the walls available.
He looked at it and confirmed that a useful space could be created.
"You will be able to keep this fantastic window and, by dividing this very high room into two levels, you will be able to recover an elegant management office upstairs!"
He also assured me that it could be possible to convince the director the feasibility of the operation.
On Adrian’s precise indication we sourced the suitable spiral staircase which solved the whole project.

Adding two wooden desks that we had in the front office, (opening more back space to my colleagues in their crowded area), the space was subsequently well furnished with the addition of a light-coloured sofa, fitting perfectly in the space.

All the materials used were in harmony and enhanced by the bright light from the Grand Canal.
It became not only my own loved working place, but in my absence it was the one most desired one by my working partners too.

In 2016, I came across Adrian at his exhibition at the renowned Magazzini del Sale, where he was presenting the Hotel Danieli and Piazza San Marco with its surroundings. One day I was able to take him away and show him the exceptional result of “my” own office.
He was delighted that we had followed all his instructions and details and how successful the final result was.

As Adrian lives and works between Cambridge, Venice and Genoa on the Italian Riviera we remained in touch. So when he was passing again in Venice, when we finally invited him to show how much space we conquered for his paintings, now everything was about the interior design.
He found ways to open “invisible” spaces and brought not only light but also colour in our home not to mention that we have a large collection of his art too.
Nothing makes me more satisfied than to get up in our new bedroom, kissed by the warm sunshine and looking to Adrian’s dream view of the lagoon from “my” Lido, before going to a swim at the beach.

Knowing Adrian was very useful when we decided to take our Venezia to London, where his consultancy for the best possible choice in our London home was invaluable.
We are now excited to employ him again to embellish our new dream home because my husband has commissioned some special views of Venezia!

After a couple of years in our new house we decided we needed to make some changes. Remodelling the kitchen was a priority – we wanted better access to the garden and to separate the cooking and seating area in the space.

We came across Adrian through friends and asked for an initial consultation. We talked in detail about our plans for the kitchen and also about future projects in our home, which included changes to the utility room, new bathrooms, and built-in furniture for the living room and dining room.

The kitchen was a great success – Adrian’s design gave us a new breakfast area, separated by an island unit from the main kitchen and wonderful colours in the splash-backs and marble surfaces - we all love cooking & living in the new kitchen.

We went on to use Adrian’s designs for the bathrooms – with his input we have managed to reclaim lots of spaces which would otherwise have been unused – for example areas under the pitched roof in our loft room en suite and shelving above the toilets.

Our living room was transformed – we have a built-in fireplace using a beautiful and characteristic reclaimed Victorian grate which Adrian sourced from a local supplier and as we have a lot of books Adrian designed purpose-made shelves, the design of which pick up a small detail from the fireplace surround which gives a wonderful sense of harmony to the room.

With Adrian’s advice on colour and furnishings, our house now has a personality and we are very grateful for his vision, which allowed us to create our home.

Q&As

Firstly in base of the height of the roof ridge, other issues such as: is the property in a conservation area or is it a listed building must also be considered.

1. A visit to the property to ascertain the owner’s wishes for the loft conversion, what will the space be used for, what are their priorities, what is their budget.
2. Initial measurements and sketched drawings of a variety of options
3. Further meeting to discuss the options proposed and an agreement on which course to follow
4. Detailed measurements and drawings
5. Ecc. ecc
Where is the building, is it in a conservation area or is it a listed building ?
How do the neighbouring buildings eighbour property possible distance/shadow issues?
Is there an existing staircase/loft access?
Is there an existing decent loft height?
Does the roof /ceiling has a structural resistance ?
Folloeing up with builder/carpenter ecc.

I adopt a gradual step by step process of initially getting to know my customers and understanding their tastes, their plans for the interior space, their needs and priorities, their preferred colour & material choices and the functional use of the area. Only after having all the answers to these questions can I begin to find solutions to fit their wishes and dreams. The finished project must have a harmonious style.

I prefer an elegant modern & functional style, however I can adapt to our customers needs and preferences.

I particularly love the versatility of every project and that the result of each solution is unique.
I aim to make my customers happier improving their life and environment with a bespoke project for their particular needs.

I was attracted by the flexibility it allows me and the personal service I am able to offer to my clients.

They should choose us because I approach every project as my own trying to find the best solution

Services

Everybody wishes to own his home, however owning a house is now more and more expensive.
This would oblige the "makers" to project from the beginning, a use for every space,
and the owners to use every space, (thought in detail for specific purposes).
That means not only to dedicate a certain area to a specific function
(see under the stairs - toilet for example) but also how to use that
whole space adequately for example by using every niche (for toilet-paper etc.)

Habits and attitudes also need to change.
"Emptiness" in and behind the "walls", can be used, which often close some
spaces ( small sometimes, but enough for shelves etc.)

Another important factor is perception. It often "seems" as if there is not enough
space. You have to try and adapt the space for you, and
you have to "see" the space three dimentionally not only as a surface on the floor,
but as a volume which can be moved around in the whole available space.

It always depends how you would make it accessible for uses.
(For instance sitting you need only a certain height, not more etc.)

To improve a better feeling of space (in small spaces) mirrors can be used (for a whole
small wall) to "enlarge" a possible claustrophobic area.

Not many architects or builders bother too much with these "problems", as they need a lot
of small details, accurate measurements etc. also because it is not easy at all to show
proposals to the potential customer.
Being small spaces it is nearly impossible to show projects with photographs and it is very time
consuming to present it with drawings which need to be from different angels.

My personal attitude is to try to solve and make better use of this three dimensional space in
my customers houses.
