How can someone tell if their loft is suitable for conversion?
The most important aspect to a loft conversion is internal head room. Without the minimum 2m height the loft conversion will not be acceptable under building regulations.
Run us through the different stages in the loft conversion process - what’s involved?
Depending on the volume of the loft, in most cases you only need to get building regulations approval which is a process of submitting structural drawing to the council backed with structural calculations. If the building is listed then you may in addition to the building regulations also require planning permission. If the volume of the loft exceeds a certain value (dependant on location and house type) then this will also require planning permission. Any modifications made to the front elevation in any case will require planning permission. The planning process involves submitting layout and elevation plans showing heights, levels and any external materials to be used for the proposal.
What do you love most about your job?
The best thing about my job is getting great satisfaction out of seeing the end result from months of designing. You also learn something new from every job which you take into the next project with you - developing yourself as well as developing new ideas.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I always wanted take full control of the design process as it brings the best out of you as well as providing the best to a client.
