Nothing was ever too much trouble, even when we required multiple visits and alterations to plans as we changed our minds frequently, on what was a relatively challenging build circumstance/proposal on our part considering the property is Grade 2 listed.
Ashley was accommodating throughout. Plan detail delivered to a high standard and even able to provide 3D versions, which were brilliant in helping the vision become a reality.
Very reasonably priced for the time and effort invested in us as clients. Additional help and services also received to help through the challenges of Graded property restrictions at planning stages; delighted to say, thanks entirely to Ashley's help, our application passed first time! How can someone tell if their Garage is suitable for conversion?
A garage conversion can sometimes be blown out of proportion in terms of complexities. My 3 initial tick list items for a garage conversion are...
- Are the garage walls, floor and ceiling insulated, if so to what standard?
- If the garage is integral is there any obstruction of lifting the finished floor level by 150mm?
- How much would this effect the front elevation and is this in keeping with the rest of the house?
Run us through the different stages of the Garage conversion process - what's involved?
Planning permission isn't usually required for a garage conversion and can be carried out under permitted development. However, a view needs to be taken on this as whether the conversion effects the wider aspects of the property or if this is in a conservation/sensitive area. Providing planning permission isn't required a review and detailed measure of the proposed conversion area will be carried out. This will then form the basis of the conversion drawings i will provide. This will include the new layout (including any plumbing & electrical positions), elevations and new floor construction, these drawings will also be accompanied with a set of construction notes. Once the designs have been finalised by the client a selected building control body will be assigned to review and approve once deemed acceptable. Following the completion of this process building works can commence, i will be contactable throughout the full process and offer my ongoing assistance. Please note that when carrying out any construction work (especially under permitted development) to consult neighbouring properties out of courtesy.
What do you love most about your job?
My job is unique in the sense that i can assist in helping with people's aspirations of building/customizing a home for themselves and their families. My love for the job comes in seeing a granted planning permission or project completion and seeing the impact of my service.
What inspired you to start your own business?
As an independent Architect i enjoy the flexibility of being available to my clients whenever required, i work 7 days a week and only ask that a client comes with an open mind and willing to work with me.
Why should our clients choose you?
I believe i offer an independent service and that my service comes without all the corporate complexities that comes when appointing an Architect. I want my service to be as open and enjoyable for my clients as possible. I always quote my services on a unique basis, i will offer to visit and review the proposal free of charge and give the client the opportunity to get to know me and gain their trust. There is no pressure on my part to be appointed and this is left solely with the client to decide what is right for them.
