We booked Merike after a conversation on facebook. So many people thought I was mad booking our wedding photos to be done by someone id never met. I knew all along it was the best decision. Merike was lovely on the approach to the day. We video called to discuss the finer details and we knew straight away she was good at her job. On the day Merike remained calm and super professional. I can not recommend Merike enough. We had the pleasure of asking her to photograph our wedding back in may and she was amazing. She went above and beyond to help before and on the day..she was our photographer come hairstylist come dress assistant . She helped to keep me at ease while I was getting ready and even though I was running late, reassured me that everything was going to be okay. She was fantastic after the wedding as well and the photos she took on the day were amazing. We will definitely be taking a trip to see her soon to get some family shots of us! We were so lucky to have Ali joIn us on our wedding day on 7th July 2018. The day began with Ali spending time with the boys in the morning before the ceremony, capturing some cracking moments of the lads clowning around and looking nice and relaxed before church, photos you don’t always get to see of the groom! He then worked quietly through the day, so much so we didn’t always feel like we were being photographed which was brilliant. Ali also captured some gorgeous natural shots of our family both young and old, some beautiful ones of the children especially. We couldn’t recommend a photographer more than Ali. I work in PR so regularly use photographers across the country for clients and it’s fair to say I am a little more fussy than most with these things. Ali captured our wedding day perfectly and not only that, he paid attention to small details and wrote a lovely piece afterwards about the day. What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
My love of photography began as a youngster, watching old school black and white movies and from there being inspired by modern photographers who love that classical film and photo journalistic look to an image. With this in mind my best images I believe have come from two things "patience" and "timing" The worlds best photo journalists know when the right image is the "one" or to wait that few more seconds, minutes as it may be on its way. I believe wedding photography is the same, the very best images are full of emotion and feeling, this cannot be created or rushed.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
I love to really get to know my clients in terms of the meaning of their day. Wedding and portrait photography is about more than a set of standard pictures of one day in time. We are hired to tell a story, make our own movie if you like! I always ask my clients what their inspiration for the day is, any significant history or meaning to them. Why they selected the venue? where they are from and grew up. An example of this is that I shot a wedding in Liverpool a couple of years ago. The Bride had grew up in Liverpool but the groom was from Leeds, he was unable to get his Nan to the venue on the day and as such I knew I had to get little pieces of his home town feeling into the day. So you see how we begin to build a picture. You don't hire a photographer, you hire a story teller, writer, artist and biographer. You should be a little concerned if your photographer takes no interest in your life.
What do you love most about your job?
I have always been a creative mind and love to push my creativity as far as possible. My love for movies and the black & white art as well as writing has long been "hobbies" of mine. I am now in a very fortunate position that I am paid and support my own family through my passions and loves. Every shoot has a reason, a meaning and my time with any individual is positive and full of happiness and joy. How many people can say that about their own jobs? I certainly believe this job is one of the greatest you can do!
What inspired you to start your own business?
Photography is about perception and personal feeling and creativity. Working for somebody else in this industry is important to learn your trade, as is the correct training and development, which Is why I am currently on my third diploma with the Institute of Photography, However to truly be in charge of your own images and be the "director" of your own tale you have to go alone sometimes and hearing the tales of world renowned photographers like Ted Viera (Las Vegas) and Kevin Mullens (London) really does push me to be better each day.
Why should our clients choose you?
I believe in my vision to create a timeless tale of love, and happiness against any backdrop of emotion and feeling of an occasion. I want a couple to look at their photographs many years down the line and instantly "feel" the same emotions as they did on that day. Clients should choose me with a guarantee that I will give everything to making their magic day last for a lifetime.
