What makes a great website?
A great website has nothing to do with the way it looks but the way it performs. eBay for example isn't a great looking website but it performs beautifully. There is of course no reason you can't get both but you need a web designer that understands how to achieve more from your website, after all it's an investment in your business.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
Is your current website underperforming and if so what aren't you happy with?
Do you know the style of website you would like?
Are there any colours, fonts that should be included/avoided?
Can you supply good quality assets or will they need creating/sourcing? (I generally use iStockPhoto)
What is your deadline?
When collaborating are you happy to use online services for file and screen sharing? (eg. DropBox, WeTransfer and TeamViewer)
How would you like updates on the site to be handled?
Do you have an existing domain name and hosting or would you like this handled for you?
Do you know what pages/sections your website should have?
What information do you need from a client before you can start work?
Most important is a list of pages required in the site for building the menu, a clear idea of your design requirements and direction, a list of home page features to be included such as customer testimonials, latest news, social media feed, imagery, logo, contact details, advertising and links to other areas of the site. Once I know how many pages the site will contain I can produce a quotation after which I can begin a sample design.
What do you love most about your job?
I love to be creative and I love to learn. Web design is constantly changing and challenging so there's never a dull day.
What inspired you to start your own business?
To be able to make a living doing what I love. To see an entire project through from brief to launch, rise to the challenge of SEO and gain customer satisfaction from after sales service.
