Q&As

The most important element of taking a great photograph is understanding the quality and complexity of "Light" to obtain the optimal exposure. Most people these days can take excellent quality photographs on their mobile phones and digital cameras but mostly it is a lucky " snap shot" a top professional should have the ability to take and recreate great photographs every time, in all types of lighting.
Then there is the "Magic Moment" of capturing "Great Expressions" and the ability to make people feel relaxed and confident that they are in capable hands.

"Detailed Planning" is the key to any successful shoot. I always like to see both partners prior to the wedding to discuss all the essential details I need.
I have an itinerary form that we can fill in together detailing all the important timings throughout the day i.e.
The time of the Home Visit,
The time of wedding ceremony at the Church / Main Venue.
The approx. time for the main photo call after the ceremony.
The time of arrival at the reception for the wedding breakfast.
The speeches, first dance and party photographs.

In between all of these timings before and after the main photo call I will take lots of informal and less "staged" photographs.

Everything! You cannot help but get totally involved in something as "Special and Personal" as someones wedding. Right from the start you are building a trusting friendly working relationship with your client, helping them to understand and enjoy what can be a stressful event all round.

Nothing can replace the many years of experience I have had dealing with some of the things you cannot plan for i.e. "Bad Weather" nobody wants that on there wedding day but, it can happen! So you have to have a contingency plan. An inexperienced wedding photographer can easily panic and loose the plot in this situation.
Most Churches and Wedding Venues are also prepared for this and will usually allow the photographer the time to continue with the main photo call indoors.

From a very early I was taking photographs with my dads fold up Kodak 120 film camera ( not quite a box brownie ) and years later I started taking pictures of some friends of mine who had formed a band. I shot them with an Olympus OM2 professional 35mm camera and they used them as publicity photos. That's when I really got hooked on photography and set up a black & white darkroom and eventually my own shop and studio and the rest is history.

I believe here at Abbey Photography you get the best of everything, The best quality photographs and personal service "Plus" the best prices around.
