Frequently asked questions

Can I choose the music that I want to be played at my event?

Most DJs will be open to you providing a selection of songs that you’d like to be played on the night. Alternatively, you can provide them with a list of songs you don’t want played as well.

It’s always worth discussing all of these aspects with the DJ before hand.

Will I have to pay a deposit?

It is very common for a DJ to ask for a deposit or retainer in order assure that you are committed to hiring them for that date.

Will my DJ talk over all the songs?

No, this is an outdated practice in the DJ profession and most DJs will prefer to let their music do the talking.

They can of course do all the important announcements. Just make sure to discuss this with them before hand so you are both aware of what needs to be done and when.

What sort of music is available?

The vast majority of DJs now will have access to huge libraries of songs. It’s very rare that they don’t have a song that you’d like, however if this does occur, it’s usually relatively simple to source it for you.

To be safe always discuss any song you’d like played before hiring the DJ to make sure that they’ll have it.

How far in advance should I book a DJ?

Depending on the popularity of your chosen DJ and the day that your event falls (weekends are busier), you’ll want to be booking around 6 months in advance to ensure you can get the professional you want.

You can of course find someone at shorter notice but you may have to compromise on certain aspects.

Should I hire a DJ with insurance?

Yes, it’s rare that you would need it but it’s good cover yourself incase something happens to any property or one of your guests.

Most professional DJs should be operating with Public Liability Insurance.
