Singing Lessons
Although I didn’t go further with my enquiry due to health issues. Simon was responsive and knowledgeable.

Simon is a great musician and a formidable music teacher. When I was looking for lessons locally, he stood out as being almost the only one with what I would call a proper training in what I was looking for. He is passionate about music and has shared that passion with very many pupils over the years. I studied with him from a Grade 5 standard. With him I received a distinction at my Grade 8 and I am currently studying with him for my Associateship Diploma. Simon is quick witted, funny, challenging and inspiring. He teaches all levels and ages with the same passion - my children are also having lessons with him. I warmly recommend him to anyone who wants their learning of Music to be rewarding as well as a lot of fun! More...

I have had singing lessons with Simon for several years. I had done my Grade 8 with another teacher, had a break and then resumed again with Simon. He is very encouraging and lessons are fun as well as good training. I really feel that I have achieved something each lesson and always come out of on a high. He instils confidence and even persuaded me to give a little concert to my friends in a hired church; something i wpuld never had thought i would have the confidence to do biy that I did successfully and greatly enjoyed - as did my friends! Singing colleagues comment on the improvement to my voice and now, in my mid 60s I have been working towards my diploma and should be ready to take it soon, which is really exciting. I would thoroughly recommend him. More...

If you are looking for a piano teacher who is not only incredibly talented but also an amazing mentor, look no further than Simon.
I've been taking lessons with him for three years now and it's been such a rewarding experience.
Simon has this incredible ability to make even the most complex techniques feel achievable. His lessons are always engaging and fun, and he has a knack for explaining things in a way that just makes them click. It's obvious how much he genuinely cares about all his students.
Over the years, Simon's belief in me, not just as a pianist, but as a person, has had a big impact on my outlook. His encouragement spilled over into other areas of my life and gave me confidence at a time I needed it most.
Simon has such a positive energy for teaching that it's infectious, his lifelong passion for music is truly inspiring. My lessons with him are one of the highlights of my week.
If you're looking for a piano teacher who will not only teach you practically but also help you to unlock your full potential, look no further than Simon, you won't regret it!

Simon is MD of the chamber choir Viva la Musica, which I was privileged to be accepted as a member of in September last year; and he’s been giving me private singing lessons since January this year, guiding me to ABRSM grade 7. He’s rightly acknowledged to be an exceptional musician and a brilliant teacher - encouraging and demanding in perfect balance. His generosity and enthusiasm and respect for music are boundless. He certainly asks a lot of his singers and pupils, but he gives back in bucketloads. With thanks for everything. More...

Piano Lessons
Simon is a very friendly piano teacher. Very personable and fun! I would recommend him for music lessons.
What do you love most about your job?
Sharing a passion for music and the joy of performing demanding and thrilling repertoire. While still being an active performer, I love teaching music and hope that I have an infectious enthusiasm for all aspects of performed music.
What inspired you to start your own business?
The composers who wrote the music I love performing and teaching. I also love sharing that enthusiasm with those who are learning music and the joy that comes from playing it.
Why should our clients choose you?
I think I provide a quality service where standards matter, especially in teaching. Where as there are quite a few people teaching music who have had some lessons themselves, I underwent a total of seven years training at two exceptional music colleges (the Royal Academy of Music, London and the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester) giving me the grounding in all aspects of music performance and how to communicate that to those I am helping to learn. I hope that I would always combine my 'know-how' and passion for teaching with a keen interest in the individual’s own musical aspirations. Many of my pupils have gone on to make careers in professional music - be that in the world of 'classical' music or one the West End Stage. Many students have also gained much success at recent Associated Board Exams and Diplomas, many achieving Distinctions in the upper Grades.
Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.
I can provide lessons on line and am happy to discuss that with people on an individual basis.
Music GCSE and A level Coaching

Piano Tuition
Individual lessons tailored to that which the student is aiming to achieve. Many students take ABRSM Exams and Trinity Exams - for the younger student, these also contribute to the UCAS points when thinking about University applications.
Singing Tuition
Again, these are individual lessons tailored to that which the student is aiming to achieve. Many students take ABRSM Exams and Trinity Exams - for the younger student, these also contribute to the UCAS points when thinking about University applications.
Theory Tuition
For most people, theory tuition is to help them through their Grade 5 ABRSM exam which enables them to continue to Grade 6 in their chosen practical instrument. Many people come to me for just this purpose who aren't studying piano, organ or singing - i.e. they come from other teachers locally for me to help their students through this phase of their musical learning.
Organ Tuition
Individual lessons tailored to that which the student is aiming to achieve. Many students take ABRSM Exams and Trinity Exams - for the younger student, these also contribute to the UCAS points when thinking about University applications. Lessons happen on my Hauptwerk Organ at home. For more details about this, please see https://www.simonlumby.co.uk/teaching.html
