My 7yr old son has been training here for a little over a year....WOW would be the word to sum up this class. It’s respectful, challenging, motivational, educational, friendly and most of all FUN! My son has never missed a week and ALWAYS looks forward to going, sometimes not wanting to leave the dojo and stay for the older class. He has also gained many skills, more confidence, build up friendships and now has a love & respect for the Martial Arts. I hope with the ongoing support and teaching of Sensei Jason along with Chris and Sean that he will go far in his chosen hobby. Mum to a 7yr old Ninja. X More...

Jason's enthusiasm and energy knows no bounds. He is a master at his art and a wonderful teacher to children and adults alike. My son has been attending his classes for nearly a year and Jason's teachings have helped Kyle with his social skills, concentration and confidence in all aspects of his life as well as having fun whilst keeping fit. I have been attending the adult classes for 9 months and have benefitted physically, mentally and spiritually. I feel very fortunate we found the Kinkan Dojo when we were looking for a martial art for Kyle. More...

Excellent activity for all. Oliver loves his weekly visits and would go every day. The pride he takes in his obtaining the badges after tests is amazing. The dojo is very well run, the kids are remarkably well behaved and respect their Sansei and teaching assistants. Oliver now knows 1-20 in Japanese and is keen to carry on learning. I advise you to take a trial lesson, it's an excellent club to be part of. More...

What do you love most about your job?
Passing on knowledge, and empowering people to take control of any stressful situation they find themselves in. I have always worked in training and development roles and I enjoy developing people and helping them begin to reach their potential. I also get to visit Japan to train with my teacher and gain a deeper understanding of the martial arts and the culture, much more than most people would get from a tourist visit.
What inspired you to start your own business?
In a nutshell, getting out of the rat race! I am very fortunate to get paid for doing something I am absolutely passionate about.
Why should our clients choose you?
There are so many martial arts out there, why pick us? What makes us unique is that we have a direct link to the source of the Japanese martial arts traditions in Tanemura Sensei. Not only do we teach the martial traditions that have been handed down for hundreds of years, but also the history and the culture are taught to our students. The self defence techniques have stood the test of time and are not for sport.
We also develop our students on many different levels, building confidence and resilience so that the lessons they learn in our dojo can be applied to every aspect of their lives.
I am also a qualified self defence instructor, which involved studying the law with regards to self defence, the primitive stress response and the science and psychology of training, so I have a unique insight into what is really needed in order for a person to defend themselves in a real situation.
Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.
Whilst it is always best to learn a martial art or self defence training in person, I have been providing online lessons to my students. They have been able to continue their training and many have also been able to grade up, so yes I can provide online training.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
We are currently training at phase 0 of the Contact Combat Sports Framework, which means all students are self training a minimum of 2 metres from each other. There is no sharing of equipment and enhanced hygiene practises are in place. We are following all guidance given by DCMS (Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport).
Martial Arts Tuition
We train our students in the traditional Japanese martial arts of Jujutsu and Ninjutsu, the original arts of Japan's Ninja and Samurai! The training encompasses all types of techniques, from striking and throwing to rolling and break falling.
We also teach traditional Japanese weapons, including the sword, staff and spear.
We have a comprehensive syllabus that students can work through all the way to blackbelt, and all grades are recognised in Japan by the Grandmaster. All certificates are issued by the Grandmaster from Japan.
