I chose to study Spanish to challenge myself, and was fortunate to study with professor Dorelis for nearly two years and, in that time, I went from beginner to confidently forming sentences and reading Spanish. Her patience, warmth, and ability to meet each student at their level make her a truly exceptional teacher. But more than a teacher, Dorelis became family. I now call her my daughter, her husband my son, and their little girl my “nietecita.” In 2017, I flew from Florida to visit them in London. Though I can’t travel far anymore, I’ve invited them to stay with me anytime, so I can finally meet my “granddaughter” in person.
