What do you love most about your job?
I enjoy the entire process from the initial setting out to the design and technical phases. But what I find most fulfilling and rewarding is knowing that my work has a meaningful impact on my clients' lives and the lives of their families.
What inspired you to start your own business?
In my previous office, I worked largely on small projects involving listed buildings, as well as some larger developments. While it was an honour and a privilege to work on these projects, I found that my true passion lay elsewhere. I felt far more fulfilled working on residential projects for smaller companies. Now, I’m taking a leap, seeing what difference I can make by pursuing the work that truly inspires me.
Why should our clients choose you?
While there may be larger, more prominent firms out there, my focus is on providing you with the tools and expertise to create a home that enhances your life and your family’s well-being.
Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.
I am more than happy to take calls online and will provide all documentation digitally. The only aspect I cannot handle remotely is the measured survey, as it requires an on-site visit. However, if you have accurate plans from an architect or surveyor, I’d be happy to use them.
Estate agents' plans can sometimes be useful in the early stages, but they often contain inconsistencies when compared to the actual building. As a result, they are not suitable for planning applications or Building Regulations submissions.
Measured Survey:
After surveying your home, I’ll produce detailed 2D plans along with a precise 3D model. This model serves as a reliable foundation from which to design your improvements, helping you visualise the transformation before any work begins.
Concept Architectural design:
I’ll guide you through the early stages of the RIBA Plan of Work, beginning with the Concept Design phase. Once you're happy with the proposal, we’ll progress to the planning stage together.
Planning Application:
Once the design has your approval and I believe it stands a strong chance of gaining planning permission, we’ll proceed with the application. That said, it’s important to note that planning decisions are made on a case-by-case basis, and approval cannot be guaranteed.
Technical Design
Once planning approval has been secured, we can move into the technical design phase, an area where much of my professional experience lies. When you're happy with the design and the structural engineer’s calculations are complete, we'll proceed with the Building Regulations submission.
Help in choosing the right structural engineer:
A structural engineer isn’t always required, but more often than not, they’re needed to specify structural supports and carry out the necessary calculations, all of which must be reviewed by Building Control. I can help guide you in selecting the right structural engineer for the job.
Building Regs application:
When you're ready, we'll move forward with the Building Regulations application, which typically takes 5 to 8 weeks to process once submitted. I’ll inform you of the outcome and any necessary amendments, which I will carry out as needed.
