Very poor decision to go with Martin.
Stopped replying to my emails. Over promises and under delivered.
I am a tech / startup company and needed someone to help me navigate this - this was all explained at the start.
We are very modern, and he was excited to have me as his client at the start.
When I started asking questions pertaining to CGT and how to plan an efficient tax exit of the company, he began ignoring me, and delaying the process with reasons such as “we need to wait until the budget” then when the budget came, he started to ignore my emails about how to exit my company, which was clearly explained at the start, as a new entrepreneur with a focus on selling ventures for a profit.
During the contract and looking back, he would refuse to answer anything via email, only give advice over the phone, we would come to an agreement over the phone but then nothing would actually happen afterwards. I had zero confidence in what was actually going on, and all the problems that I found out, I actually had to show to him first (surely it should be other way around?)
He then suddenly stopped the contract without notice going against the contract of giving 30 days of notice, keeping my business registered at his address, and then ignored all next contact and closing for 3-4 weeks around Christmas, making transferring to a new accountant very difficult and a lot of extra work.
Do not be fooled by his credentials or his smart and charismatic personality on the phone - he is a great salesman and talker and will tell you exactly what you want to hear, then once he has your money, professionalism and his “service excellence” he prides himself on goes out the window.
If I was too much work or we wasn’t aligned Martin, you should have just said - increasing your prices (I was happy to pay more) or offering to end our contract amicably, or even refer to a different accounting firm that might be better align.
If you want an accountant for 2025, do not go with Martin. He didn’t know how to send me a PDF, wouldn’t email me, overpromised he services, and then unprofessionally and immaturely ended our contract, making transferring to a new accountant as hard as he could make it.
