Alonso Mendoza has been teaching my children percussion for the past six years, bringing my eldest from absolute beginner to Grade 8 Distinction, in both drum kit and tuned percussion. Alonso is not only a virtuoso percussionist in his own right but also an excellent teacher and a truly lovely person. He is friendly but firm, fun and often very funny, and always encouraging and positive with his pupils. His studio is well-equipped, in a lovely setting, and easy to find and park at. He is happy for parents to sit in on children's lessons or not, as they prefer. He will take a pupil through grade exams, or help them with any other aspect of percussion, as required, such as learning pieces for performance or focussing on aspects of technique. Alonso Mendoza is an outstanding and inspirational percussion teacher. He taught my son for 5 years at his studio, situated in the beautiful grounds of his house after recognizing his ability and instilling in him a passion for percussion. With his excellent teaching style, friendly support and encouragement, my son grew in confidence and gained a distinction for all of his exams through to grade 8 in drum kit and orchestral percussion.
