Multi-Award Winning Designer Zekaryas Solomon
Winner of BEFFTA Best Male Fashion Designer 2012 and Fashion Finest Male Designer 2012 and guest of honor at Festival for African Fashion and Art is gearing up for an amazing 2013.
Eritrean born and raised in Germany, Solomon has been creating quite a buzz since his graduation from the London College of Fashion in 2010. With his background originally in Architecture and Design he launched his first menswear collection entitled ME and his second Rouge Et Noir.
Not content with turning menswear upside down on it’s head. Solomon launched his first women’s collection this summer. Online Store and Images and is currently working on the convergence of his men’s and women’s collections to create a fourth, plus his newly launched line of funky and practical laptop/notebook and mobile phone bags. Managing to fit in Fashion shows in London, Pacha London Fashion Show, Poland and Kenya. His designs have been featured in numerous magazines like Sublime, LEONID, FAB, New African Woman and ELEM to mention a few.
‘It’s been a whirlwind two years since my graduation, this month in particular has been quite overwhelming’ explains Zekaryas ‘Winning two awards within two weeks of each other, the highlight was Sir Trevor MacDonald(who was given a lifetime achievement award) congratulating ME at the BEFFTA awards on what a great job I was doing. Then a week later I found myself in Nairobi showing my Rouge et Noir Collection, amongst other celebrated African and International Fashion Designers at the Fashion for Peace Gala Event.’
When not working from his studio in Bermondsey Project Space, he manages to find time to teach students pattern cutting techniques and also teaches Tigrinya and Eritrean language to Bachelor, Master and PhD students of unfamiliar languages at Queen Mary’s University, London.
