I have been a counsellor since 1993. I specialise in CBT - cognitive Behavioural Therapy; REBT - Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy and humanistic counselling. I am also an Anxiety UK approved therapist.

CBT is the NICE [National Institute for Health & Care Excellence] recommended therapy for Anxiety, Depression, Anger Management, Self-Esteem and many other emotional and psychological issues. REBT is a particular school of CBT. It is goal focused and highly effective, if the client is indicated for CBT.

I offer early morning , evening and weekend availability in a number of locations in London. Please contact me for details 07484330846, I offer some of the lowest rates available in London.

I am a qualified CBT coach and can help individuals with stress management, problem-solving, life direction, building self-confidence / self esteem, and changing negative habits. I have experience in leadership coaching with some of London's largest organisations.

Is CBT suitable for you?

In CBT we to look at the connections between how we think (cognitions), how we feel (emotions) and what we do (behaviour).
It focuses on thoughts that are non useful. These often undermine our self-esteem and make us feel depressed or anxious. Looking at these unhelpful thoughts can help us build different ways of thinking and behaving that in turn will help us manage our emotions more usefully. CBT looks at the "here and now" issues rather than examining the past. CBT will teach you a model that will help you manage stress and emotional problems in future, so in effect you become your own therapist.

What makes Cognitive Behavioural Therapy stand out from other forms of therapy or types of counselling is the emphasis on evidence based practice; this means you receive up-to-date professional therapy based on the very latest research. CBT is recommended by the Department of Health as the treatment of choice for a range of mental health problems including:

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Shame / Guilt
Post Natal Depression
Relationship Difficulties
Low Self Esteem / Confidence issues
Social phobia / fear of public speaking / Shyness
Stress / work place stress
Performance Anxiety
Chronic fatigue
Sleep disorders
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Eating Disorder
Health Anxiety
Finding Direction in Life

Over the years the evidence for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy has grown substantially. The practice of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is an art and science. It is constantly integrating the art of therapy with the science of best practice. There are two main driving assumptions:

First, the assumption about thinking (cognitions).
It is not what happens to you but what you make of that experience that matters.

The secondary assumptions are about how we behave or act in a situation.
What you do or how you act effects what you think and how you feel.

We also look at ow is your problem maintained?

Although it is not a dominant part of therapy it's sometimes useful to look at how or why the problem developed. In fact it is usually very important to understand how problems have developed to help come up with solutions - but sometimes insight is not enough. For example, if you broke your arm and went to hospital you might expect the doctor to fix your arm and stop the pain rather than ask you questions about how you broke it. CBT is similar, the focus is on the solution to the problem, but it is also important to find out how you broke your arm to prevent you from doing it again.

In Cognitive Behavioural Therapy we try to understand how the problems are maintained. This could be because of:
Unhelpful Behaviours (e.g. avoidance or substance use)
Thinking distortions (like personalising, catastrophising or always looking at the worst part of an experience).
Negative emotional states (like hopelessness, shame or guilt).
Physical symptoms (such as lack of energy or palpitations).
Life events (such as consequences from assaults or redundancy).

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy offers specific interventions or techniques to help you overcome the difficulties in all the above areas and many others. REBT is trans diagnostic, meaning it integrates a number of additional psychotherapies to facilitate greater and permanent change.

Yvonne Brown Counsellor & Psychotherapist Q&A

Company Q&A

What do you love most about your job?

The most satisfying aspect is seeing clients renew focus, help them to find their goal, and work with them to achieve that goal; whether it is healing (psychological issues) or to find direction in life, work life or personal life. We hold ourselves back, our inner 'self critical voices' tell us how useless we are, or talk us out of achieving our dreams. We are our own worst enemies. Sometimes we need a professional helping hand. There is nothing more satisfying than helping someone achieve their goal, no matter how small or huge it seems! Nothing is impossible - we have the ability to be what we dream of being.
"When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be." --Lao Tau

What inspired you to start your own business?

I have extensive experience in the field, through both professional and personal experience. Life is full of adversity, and at some time or another, we all need the compassion and support of others to help us through a particular stage of our journey. Life is full of challenge, but life also gives us the tools to overcome the challenge. I believe I am one of the tools in that tool box. Each time we overcome challenge, we grow stronger.
I value the flexibiIty of beIng able to practIce In dIfferent locatIons with a diverse range of clients.

Why should our clients choose you?

I am registered with the National Counselling Society, [NCS18-07041]. I offer a safe, non-judgemental but highly effective service that is flexed to suit the individual. We are all unique, with unique attributes and beliefs. I offer a therapy that is personalised to suit the clients needs, not a 'one size fits all' therapy.
I will always work very hard to fit the needs of the clients against their budget for those who speak to me about their circumstances.
