YTherapy Q&A

YTherapy Q&A

What do you love most about your job?

I love helping clients achieve their potential through therapy. Most of the time, clients seek therapy with the intention to only look at and to get rid of the 'bad' stuff. I believe that it is important to strike a balance and I will also work with and develop the positive, healthy and creative side of the person.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I started YTherapy so that I could reach more people in the community and share with them the benefits of working creatively. Accessing one's own creativity in psychological treatment can help people in recovery and for their own personal development.

Why should our clients choose you?

I have many years of experience working in the field of mental health, addictions, learning disabilities, autism, trauma and abuse. I have worked across both NHS and charity sectors in a variety of settings including psychiatric hospitals, prisons, specialist psychotherapy clinics and in other community settings (e.g. day centres, nursing homes). In addition to my clinical experience, I have worked as a trainer and provided training and consultancy to professionals in education, healthcare, social care and criminal justice systems. I have my own Professional Indemnity Insurance and hold a cleared Enhanced DBS certificate.
The two unique things about me and the service I provide for my clients:
1) I am a Dramatherapist who specialises in working with adults.
This means that you will be able to use more traditional forms of talking psychotherapy in addition to being able to work creatively. This means there will be a lot more possibilities to be able to express yourself fully in the therapy sessions. I am one of the few Dramatherapists who specialises in working with adults using this form of arts psychotherapy. This is especially useful when there may be times when you may be finding it too overwhelming to talk or when you are feeling stuck about an issue.
2. I specialise in helping individuals recover from trauma.
Having worked with the most highly traumatised client groups in different institutions and services, I have a lot of knowledge and experience to be able to work with individuals who may seek therapy privately in the community. This also means that the work I provide can be long-term which is necessary for dealing with complex, historical and multiple issues, and it won't be restricted to a limited amount of sessions.
