I love that place to death
When I go..... I LOVE it!!!
Went from being a enchanted member to entranced staff :) love this place! Wouldn't want to do anything else and no where else I'd rather be
The Monroe Y is our home away from home.
The Monroe Family YMCA is a very special place indeed! I have met such kind and friendly people there. I also LOVE the instructor of the Zumba class I attend. She makes working out so much fun! I have visited other YMCA locations and they are nice but the Monroe Family YMCA is truly closest to Family. More...

The staff were very congenial and their smiles and positive attitudes made the visit very special. The Monroe YMCA is the place I learned to swim when I was a child. So many wonderful memories.
Extremely welcoming environment, went here for several months and lost weight. If I didn't start going to RIT again, I'd still be here. Thanks for the great times.
Go here if you want to lose weight or promote a new healthy life style! More...

Its a very fun place
Wow, attended Family Night, it was a well run event, with lots to do. All of the staff were very, very nice and helpful.
I love the YMCA. They have a great children's room with freeway employees so i can drop my kids off and go work out and know that they are safe.

I love this Y. The staff are courteous and friendly. The facility is clean and well maintained. I enjoy my time spent at the Carlson Metro Y
A treasure in the downtown area
Amazing staff, fantastic facilities, and the new Teen Coordinator is kind of a big deal ;-)
Friendliest cross section of people to work out around. Represent all that is good about Rochester!
The best place to go in downtown Rochester to workout, hangout, and try something new!! The staff is super friendly and helpful!

Great staff! Positive, non- judgemental environment. Great variety of programs. The pool is the BEST. Location can't be beat. Parking free for 2 hours in East End Garage. More...
It's a great place for me to workout after work the only set back is the old guy at the desk always seems to have an attitude
I love the Carlton Metro:: I have been a member of the Y since 2009 , n I love utilizing my membership : I have visit majority of all the Y's but if I am in the downtown area I normally go to da Carlton: The members as well as the staff's are real friendly and the one thing I love is that you don't have to wait in line to utilize the equipment: Its always plenty more available: Come on down if you are in the downtown area, and I guarantee you that you would luv itl
Carlson is literally my home away from home. A complete fitness facility and a friendly, diverse member population. The staff is caring and will help to set reasonable fitness goals. The best part of Y membership is that you can give back to the community just be being a member. More...
It's a wonderful facility. It's large, the people are great. The only drawback is the parking. You get an hour free but if you stay long enough to get a good workout you end up paying for parking. The other drawback is the gym is right in the center of of the building with a tall ceiling. When there is a basketball game going on it echos through the whole building and it gets pretty loud. I ended up going to the Monroe branch because of those drawbacks. More...
close to downtown, great for a quick cardio. only Y w raquetball
Not a lot of people in the weight room so NO WAITING doing your Set's

It's official! Now a member of "Silver and Fit". The positive energy from ther staf is contagious.
Community of people who live active lifestyles.
I work here lol
Great morning workout crew!
I've been coming to this Y for many years. Helpful friendly staff. My favorite activities: basketball, swimming, sauna, and hot tub on main floor, track, weights, and Life Fitness on top floor. Lobby with newspaper, coffee, and computers. Parking convenient across street. Free for 90 min, reasonable after that. It brings me downtown near some of my other favorites: Eastman Theatre, ROCO, Jazz St. (Gibbs) More...
It’s been one of the best places I’ve been part of for the past 30 plus years meeting people of all walks of life
I have recently joined Lifespan programs and the Silver Sneakers program at the Westside Y. This has been a very positive experience in my new retirement life!

A place for open minds and free spirits
It's a great family friendly place to work you can leave your kids at the child watch and know that they are having a blast
Friendly, helpful staff. Adequate equipment. Clean, safe, & comfortable workout room. Plenty of good cardio on the 3rd floor ;-)
Great place for a workout- use the pool all the time. Wish the other YMCA's had locker and towel service, as this makes it very convenient to do a workout after work, or to cycle over and avoid the hassles of parking. They do offer a 2 hour ticket for the East End garage-- so if you're just in for a class, it won't cost you to park. Staff is nice-- though a lot of the weekend staff doesn't seem to be well versed on various policies and stuff-- and wish they didn't close earlier on the weekends in summer-- that's exactly when some of us want to use the pool and sauna to top off the end of the day. Still, great place. Been going here several months, still haven't done half of what I could. Great variety for everyone. More...
Love, Love, Love the Y at Bayview. So friendly and they offer a variety of classes. I especially enjoy the water classes.
Looks very clean
Great place. A blessing to the inner city and the community.
My family away from home. Come and enjoy the fun meeting new friends.
I love this gym! They have everything...weights, cycling, cardio, pool, courts, classes, and more! The staff is always friendly and very helpful if you have questions or need suggestions. You can park in the garage, and they'll validate for 2 hours. After work tends to be the busiest, so I prefer going early in the morning. Not too many people! More...
love the Y and all they have to offer especially the resource room
The Carlson MetroCenter YMCA is my Y of choice, despite there being closer Y's to me. WHY? It has a steam room (the only Y that has one in this area), and it has an excellent indoor running track. The indoor track is designed to be better than running on concrete, etc. The pool is wonderful and perfect for lap swimming and general swimming. The locker rooms are very large and very clean, as well as the shower room. It even offers a towel service where you can include your gym clothes. They will be washed and ready for you on your next visit. It also has all the physical fitness equipment to meet everyone's needs, and at a great value. More...
Some real ball goes down here!
I have been coming to this Y for several months now since switching my morning running location to the city. If you're not a member of a YMCA yet, what are you waiting for?! Being a member in Rochester allows access to all locations around town which is super convenient. This Y is centrally located and perfect for starting my morning right regardless of where I will be working during the day.For full disclosure, I do not normally work out here because I run outside, so my experience is not as in depth as others. That being said...UPDATE: I started using the 1st floor weight room and 3rd The staff has been very friendly and don't hassle me if I forget my key tag to check in. That alone is a enough to make me keep coming here at the crack of dawn. The locker rooms are huge and very well equipped with plenty of lockers (also available to rent on a month to month), sauna, steam room, stretching room, lounge area with a TV to catch the news, and a million showers. MAKE SURE TO BRING A LOCK - theft has happened to friends here. The morning crowd tends to usually be over 50, so it's fun to overhear the older guys shoot the breeze (naked old people everywhere is not as fun, but to each their own). This Y is basically 3 stories tall - pool, racquetball, fitness classrooms, and weights on the first floor; basketball courts and some other offerings on the second; the third floor has circuit training equipment, treadmills, and plenty of elliptical machines, and an old school walking track that overlooks the basketball court. Street parking is free before 8 and after 6 weekdays. It's hit or miss to find a spot, but it's the city so what can you do? If you park in the Eastman garage across the street, make sure to grab a free parking validation (under 2 hours) If you made it this far, thanks for reading and I'll hopefully see you at the Y! Fun racket ball court!
Very clean facility lots of activities for the young youths
Love this Y. Everyone is very helpful. The facilities are clean and well kept.

The Chester F. Carlson Metrocenter YMCA is a fantastic facility. Whenever I am tempted to switch to a cheaper gym, I remind myself of all the Y does for the community. The best asset is easily the people. Everyone -- the front desk folks, the bathroom cleaning lady, the class instructors -- wants to be your friend. Pool: Carlson's pool is good-not-great. It can sometimes have hot or cold patches and occasionally gets short on lanes. The lanes are plenty wide for sharing, though, and the lifeguards can help to attract the attention of oblivious swimmers who aren't making room.Locker rooms: There are four locker rooms: Women's, Men's, and then one for each with kids. The locker rooms are old, but very clean (I don't believe I've ever been there when a cleaning lady hasn't). There are plenty of lockers and a few small changing rooms if you prefer privacy (though most people skip them -- not a whole lot of prudish suburbanites here). The showers are open, but three have stalls built around them, so again -- privacy is an option. There's also a small sitting room with a TV in the locker room.Classes: The free classes are easily the best benefit of the Y. Seriously, if you're not taking advantage, you're missing out. Weight room: The weight room is a little cramped, but there is a ton of equipment and people are friendly enough to share (though you may have to remind one or two people to move between sets). Cardio: The cardio room has lots of machines and a row of six or so TVs at the front. I've never had trouble getting a machine. None of the machines have personal TVs. They even have one crazy machine that I only can imagine is for wheelchair folks who can't use the treadmills or regular elliptical (or maybe swimmers who want more upper-body cardio training?). There's not really enough stretching room, but there is a 14th-of-a-mile track all the way around. The cardio room and the track are both open to the basketball courts (below), which are always lively.Racquetball: Several racquetball courts line the front hallway, and they're nearly always at least partially in use. You can get racquets and balls from the front desk; highly recommended! More...
