About

In an age where there is instant access to anything at any time, we’ve come to value the beauty of exquisite objects that exist in the real world with you. Handmade watches are our priority and the focus is on exhibiting these items. Not only for the romance attached to them but the interaction they demand from the wearer – the weight of the handmade watches, the smell of the raw leather straps, the opening of the wax sealed packages and the mysteries inside.

Great company to deal with, despite having loads of customers they always treat you as if you are their only one and nothing is too much trouble. Don’t go and buy a “regular” watch, look at what they have firs, you won’t be disappointed! More...

We stumbled across this company at the Chateau Impney hill climb last year and loved the watches so much I was bought one for Christmas. I love it - individual, stylish and not expensive for such a unique piece. Will be looking hard at the next issue and hinting strongly for next Xmas. More...

It's a big decision buying a watch. For most of us chaps it's the only piece of jewellery we will wear (and rightly so) so it's got to be right. I looked hard at all the British Watch makers and for me WT Author had the right balance of originality (why pay thousands for something that looks like a Rolex and isn't?), style, uniqueness, and provenance, all at an affordable and not outrageous price. Nearly 6 months on and I'm really happy with it. They are watches that can be worn with jeans or with a suit. Smart and classy but just that little less formal than the more traditional dress watches out there. So, any negatives? Well, not many - the power reserve on the automatic movement could be better, and mine runs fast at quite a rate (but then so did my old JLC Amvox) so adjustment needed every couple of weeks. Aside from that? No. Very soft and comfortable strap and elegantly packaged. Outstanding service from the guys and it'll take all my powers of resistance (and a house purchase) to stop me buying the next one out! If you're able to lose the brand snobbery, and you want something unique at a price tag that won't leave you eating beans for weeks, you'll end up with something really rather special on your wrist. Highly recommended and a very happy customer. Thanks guys. More...

I have a real love of watches and like to think I am a bit of a collector. From common Casio's to rarer Breitling's I like to try and keep in the loop with new releases. W.T. Author caught my eye, with the fact that they are assembled in Britain and also seem to be released in a very limited number. (So far) I have two of the W.T. Author watches. The No. 1914 Blue Trench Watch and also the No. 1934 Blue Dress Watch with the Automatic movement. Both are absolutely stunning and more often than not get admiring comments from passers by. The care and attention to detail that the guys at W.T. Author take is obvious to see. From the superb packaging that they come in, the hand stitched leather straps, to the hand written number card and service booklet. You can also sense when owning one of these timepieces that you have a real unique item and one that is special to you. I was able to choose two different numbered editions and knowing that they're the only ones in the world like that is very special, especially in the watch industry. I also really like the fact that they only release one design a year, it keeps me wondering what they might have in store for us in the future. If my current watches are anything to go by then I can't wait to see the next one. More...

Q&As

In an age where there is instant access to anything at any time, we’ve come to value the beauty of exquisite objects that exist in the real world with you. Digital devices and applications are excellent and are integral to our lives, but the perfect way we’d hope a wearer to experience our products is as an eye-catching talking point knowing that the person next to you is never going to be wearing the same watch.

We are building a legacy, and something that will evolve and adapt. It is not a flash in the pan but something we will pass down. We create our products by instilling depth into every idea and this vision will be carried forward into everything we do.

Our Story

Chapter numbers are assigned to pieces from the WT Author collection in the order they are released, with each one representing ideas and techniques from a specific point in time. We encompass each limited edition product with a unique character that is individual to the legacy. Each Chapter is finished with a short story to commemorate the release.

Every object is full of meaning and symbolism to intrigue the wearer. The case back is inspired by a casino chip to represent “the bet” we place when releasing a new Chapter. The signature red colour is selected so it is recognised across a room in the same way our dials are distinguished through the tuning fork shaped indices.

At 13:00, Friday, September 13, 2013, we launched the first Chapter dedicated to the memory of the patient teacher Wynn Phillips and the loving grandfather Thomas Hall – the first initial from both names are represented in the identity of our brand. For the debut release we looked to the beginnings of the gent’s wristwatch that came at the turn of the 20th century. Each year we release another Chapter moving onto another decade. Thirteen handmade watches to chart thirteen decades in the evolution of the wristwatch.

WT Author was founded by Jon and Sam in Birmingham, UK. As the brand’s founders and primary designers, engineers, makers, and photographers, we are the creative force behind the brand. This changed in 2015 when Sarah, a frequent collaborator became a full member of our team too.

We take pride in the quality of a highly personal service. The setup allows quick and thorough support meaning you are never placed into a queue. You can talk directly to any of the group by email, social media, phone, or post.

WT Author is entirely independent meaning we have no investors to answer to. This allows us to create freely – and bypass corpocracy. Every creative element from the website to the handmade watches is produced in-house by three people. The ultimate dream is to have complete manufacturing control.

Launched alongside each watch collection, our handmade watch straps use Argentinian-sourced buffallo hide or Italian leather. Manufactured by T Author in Britain, the rich colour of these double shoulders goes completely through our handmade watch straps. The result is a glazed leather with exquisite beauty, that will uniquely mould itself to your wrist over time. The watch straps have been designed and manufactured to fit 22 & 24mm lugs and are embossed with the WT Author ‘A’ trademark. They are completed with buckles to compliment the design of the wristwatch.
