Identify Goals: My first step is to discuss with the client what their goal is, what they want to achieve from the website, who their target audience is. I also take this time to find out more about their business.
Project Scope: Once I know what a client's goals are, I will work with the client to define the scope of the project. For example, how many web pages are needed. Do we need to set up a domain name and hosting service for the client, Is a database required, is SEO required, is this an e-commerce site, what payment methods are required, does the site need an SSL certificate etc.
Design and Content creation: Once the scope of the project has been defined, I will work with the client to define the content and details of each web page.
Website Development: I then move on to the development stage, I will usually draw up the home page and menu layouts for the client to see before moving on to developing the rest of the site. This allows the client to visualise how the site will look and make any necessary changes before moving on to the rest of the site. I will work closely with the client at this stage to make sure they are happy with the design and content.
Go-live/Launch: Once development is complete and the client is happy. We will set a date for go-live and launch the site. Search engine optimisation is built in during development. The sitemap will be submitted to Google search and analytics tracking software will be set up too.

The thing I love most about my job is starting a new project from scratch, meeting new people from all different walks of life and finding out about their passions and what they do. I also love taking something which is just an idea and turning it into reality for a client. It's so rewarding when you have a very happy client who can finally see their dream turned into a reality.

I worked as a Senior Systems Analyst for a large bank for 12 years. In that time I worked on many corporate projects, both in a design role and a development role. Our IT department was moved to Scotland and I was given the option of voluntary redundancy which I took. My husband and I decided to start our own business instead of me going back into the corporate environment. I'm so glad I did, I get to work for so many different people and have so much more freedom with the design process. This job never gets boring! I love it!
